Caryol L. Hansen

Christian Biography of Caryol L. Hansen

Caryol Lee Hansen, daughter of Otto Albert Clausen and Lola Amelia (Parr) Clausen, was born on April 29, 1931 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. She passed away on November 19, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Caryol attended elementary school through the 5th grade in Superior, graduating from Kearney High School in May, 1948. She moved back to Superior that same year, working for Morris Motor Ford Co., then Farmers Union Creamery in the office. She married Arthur Hansen in May of 1949 and from 1950-1971 she worked tirelessly raising her family. Caryol then returned to Farmers Union, now called Mid-America Dairymen, retiring from Mid-Am in 1993 as office supervisor.
Caryol’s creative talents manifested themselves in many ways over the years. An accomplished seamstress, she spent countless hours sewing holiday outfits for her children, as well as lots of doll clothes. Later, she turned to ceramics, adding her loving touch to the villages and Santas we treasure so dearly. She then added quilting to her list of accomplishments, creating
more unique works of art for her family. Caryol loved decorating her home for the holidays, especially Christmas. At one family reunion in July 1989, she celebrated "Christmas in July" complete with decorated tree and gifts for all. In recent years she enjoyed reading the Mitford series of books, a pastime she shared with many of her friends.
Finally, one of Caryol’s most lasting contributions will be her service to her community (especially the Vestey Center), and to her friends and neighbors. This is evidenced
by her receiving the "President’’s Volunteer Service Award" in 2005.
Caryol was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Deborah, infant son Jonas, and two brothers, Richard and Robert Clausen.
Survivors include her children, Caryn Geiger and husband Dan of Superior, Colorado, Denise Long and husband Sam of Vancouver, Washington, Blaine and wife Maricarol of Story
City, Iowa, Sherryl Zoltenko and husband James of Hardy, Nebraska, James and wife Cathy of Vancouver, Washington, Christina Eggen and husband Stan of College Station, Texas, Tamara, of Elmwood, Nebraska, Richard of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jeffrey and wife Jennifer of Burgaw,
North Carolina. Surviving Grandchildren include, Vanessa Tremain and Lyndsey and Jordan Geiger, Curtis and Allison Hansen, Lannin and Cole Zoltenko, Bill Chapman and Collette
Armstrong, Sloane, Paige and Shelby Eggen, Morgan and Lillie Hansen. Great-grand children, include, Parker and Amelia Blaney, Chandler and Taren Zoltenko, Hayley Chapman and Jacklyn
and Kaitlyn Armstrong.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 10:00 AM from
the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Stark officiating.
Music was “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and
Carlita Erickson as organist.
Pallbearers were Lannin Zoltenko, Cole Zoltenko, Jordan Geiger, Curtis Hansen, Brian
Hansen, Rick Johanson, and Steve Bruns.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Amanda Marie Kimminau
November 16, 2007

Lawrence resident Amanda Marie Kimminau, the daughter of Dale and Mary (Weidt) Kimminau, was born on April 12, 1991 in Hastings, Nebraska. She passed away on November 16, 2007 at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska as a result of injuries from a car accident at the age of 16 years, 7 months and 4 days.

Amanda was a Junior at Lawrence/Nelson High School and involved in various school activities such as: FFA, One Act Plays, Volleyball and Vocal Music. She also played Softball in the Summer. She was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church of Lawrence where she was also a Song Leader

She is survived by her parents: Dale and Mary, Lawrence, Nebraska, four brothers, Michael, David, Stephen and Matthew and one sister, Rebecca and a niece, Alyssa all of the home, grandparents: Ray and Lucille Weidt of Hastings, Nebraska and Arnold and Marie Kimminau of Lawrence, Nebraska; aunts and uncles: John Weidt of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Cathy and Terry Fitz of Hastings, Nebraska, Bob and Sherry Weidt of Hastings, Nebraska, Diane and Duane Reiber of Lincoln, Nebraska, Marlene and Mark Pullman of Kearney, Nebraska, Darrel and Linda Kimminau of Lincoln, Nebraska and Karen and Randy Edmisten of Hastings, Nebraska, and numerous cousins.

Doris A. Christensen

Christian Biography of Doris A. Christensen

Doris A. Christensen, the daughter of Emmet and Ida (Steinke) Gray, was born on October 12, 1912 on a farm near Upland, Nebraska. She passed away on November 9, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 95 years and 28 days.
Doris was baptized on September 4, 1927 at the E.U.B. Church. She graduated in 1930 from the Upland High School, Upland, Nebraska and furthered her education at Hastings, College, Hastings, Nebraska. She taught at the Harmony country school near Upland from 1932 - 1935. She was united in marriage to LeRoy W. Christensen on September 1, 1935 in Hastings, Nebraska by the Rev. Henry McClenahan and to this union was born three children, Maurice, Lois and Owen. Together they lived in Hastings and York, Nebraska until moving to Superior, Nebraska in 1943. She was a member and very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Superior. She was presented an Honorary Life Membership of the Ladies Association for caring and supporting the Presbyterian Women. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for years.
She was a member of the Brodstone Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to garden and enjoyed her flowers. She was an avid Bridge player and belonged to several Bridge clubs. Her family will remember her for her quilts that she made for each of her children and grandchildren. Every Great-grandchild was welcomed with knitted booties, hat and a blanket. They will also remember
her for her pies that she made. She loved to spend time with her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and you never went away hungry from Grandma’s house.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy W. Christensen on July 26, 1981, her son Maurice, and one brother Dick Gray and sister-in-law Dorothy Gray.
She is survived by her children, Lois Hamel and husband Kenneth of Nelson, Nebraska and Owen Christensen and wife Kathy of Lincoln, Nebraska and daughter-in-law, Jan Casey, widow of son Maurice of Boise, Idaho. Seven grandchildren, Bill Christensen and wife Diane of
North Richmond Hill, Texas, Jennie Murphy and husband Ben, Angie Barr and husband Scott, Chris Christensen and wife Amy all of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cindy Buescher and husband Dwayne
of Lawrence, Nebraska, Diane Eiseman and husband Tim of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Amy Hamel of Minden, Nebraska. 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Bryce and Cody Buescher, Alec and Erica Eiseman, Jordan, Ben Jr. and Emma Murphy, Damon and Cecila Barr and Alexis Christensen.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 10:30 AM from the First
Presbyterian Church in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Music was “In
The Garden” & “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita
Erickson as organist and accompanist.
Pallbearers were Bill Christensen, Chris Christensen, Dwayne Buescher, Tim Eiseman,
Scott Barr and Ben Murphy. Honorary pallbearers were Cindy Buescher, Diane Eiseman, Amy
Hamel, Jennie Murphy, Angie Barr, Diane Christensen and Amy Christensen.
A Memorial has been established and may go in care of the family.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Lyle Greenwood

Christian Biography of Lyle Edward Greenwood

Lyle Edward Greenwood, the son of Ed and Mildred Greenwood, was born on October 10, 1926 on a farm near Mankato, Kansas. He passed away on November 2, 2007 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, and 23 days
Lyle attended school in the “Blue Bird” country school in Jewell County Kansas. The family moved to the Boise Valley of Idaho when Lyle was ten years old. He lived in Idaho until 1953, moved to the Loveland, Colorado area where he was a rancher and dairy farmer. He served on the Federal Housing Association Board for the State of Colorado for three years.
He was united in marriage to Leona Churchill in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1978.
In 1972 the family moved to Furnas County close to Beaver City, Nebraska, where he was a farmer and rancher.
Lyle was united in marriage to Sharon Churchill Walton in 1979. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Lyle bought and sold real estate. In 1984, they moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he retired on to a “hobby farm.” While living there they were foster parents to many foster boys. They moved to Superior, Nebraska in 1992 where they made their
retirement home, and resided there until his death.
He enjoyed his family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to assist them in reaching solutions to their problems.
Lyle was a man of God. He was a 15 year member of the Church of the Nazarene in Superior. He served on church boards for many years in all the areas where he lived. He enjoyed
building items out of metal and wood. He especially enjoyed taking what was in a “sad state” and making it useful.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Leona; one daughter, Judith Ione Witt; one brother, Dallas Greenwood and one granddaughter, Tonya Witt.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Superior, Nebraska; children, Linda Purcell of Quitaque, Texas, Esther Smith of Sundance, Wyoming, Dean Greenwood of Columbia, Missouri, Dennis Greenwood of Adair, Oklahoma, Gary Walton of Superior, Nebraska, Guy Walton of Gering, Nebraska, and Sherry Mitchem of Paonia, Colorado; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Greenwood of New Plymouth, Idaho and one sister, Nita Jemmett of West Richland, Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.


Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 1:30 PM from the Church
of the Nazarene in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Coleman officiating. Music was
congregational hymns “Victory In Jesus,” and “What A Day That Will Be,” with Wanda
Greenwood as organist.
Pallbearers were Alex Mitchem, Brett Walton, Seth Walton, Travis Greenwood, Jared
Greenwood, Bruce Greenwood, Chris Greenwood, Wesely Smith, Marcus Witt, Levi Smith,
Nathan Smith and Calvin George.
Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Bloomington, Nebraska.
Memorials may go to the Church of the Nazarene in Superior, Nebraska.

Edward Deines

Christian Biography of Edward Deines

Edward Deines, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Koch) Deines, was born on December 14, 1913 at Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed away on October 31, 2007 at his home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Edward attended Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed in the Emanuel Reformed Church and was a member while living in Lincoln.
He was united in marriage to Clara Weitzel on December 31, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two daughters.
Edward was a retired Railroad Conductor for Burlington Northern Railroad and Amtrak Railways. He was a member of the United Transportation Union, Burlington Northern Old Timers Club and the Lincoln Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. While living in Superior, Edward was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Edward lived most of his life in Lincoln before making his retirement home in Superior, Nebraska, where he resided until his death.
Preceded him in death were his parents; wife, Clara on March 1, 1998; three brothers, Johnson, Henry and Raymond; and one sister, Esther Hraba; and one grandson,
Bret Warren.
Survivors include his daughters, Marlice Sullivan and husband John of Superior,
Nebraska and Katherine Balog and husband Michael of Arvada, Colorado; three grandchildren, Kirk Warren, Philip Warren and Justin Balog; and four great-grandchildren, Bret Warren, Bryan Warren, Jacob Warren and Erika Warren; nieces,nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2:30 PM from the
Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks
officiating. Music was “Footprints,” and “O That Will Be Glory,” solo by Carol
Shambaugh and congregational hymn “Amazing Grace” with Carlita Erickson as organist
and accompanist.
Pallbearers were Kirk Warren, Philip Warren, Justin Balog, Bret Warren, Bryan
Warren, Jacob Warren, and Erika Warren.
Interment was Monday, November 5, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Lincoln Memorial
Park Cemetery at Lincoln, Nebraska.
Memorials may be suggested to the First United Methodist Church.

Morgan Powell

Christian Biography of Morgan Powell

Melvin "Morgan" Powell, the son of David and Mary (Webb) Powell, was born on December 7, 1930 south of Hardy, Nebraska. He passed away on October 28, 2007 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 21 days.
Morgan attended school at Hardy Nebraska. He worked at the Ideal Cement Plant in Superior for 18 years and farmed and raised cattle near Guide Rock, Nebraska for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Harold and Jim, one grandson, Travis Powell and one brother John Powell.
He is survived by his son Melvin Powell and wife Diane of Edgar, Nebraska and two grandchildren, Chad Graham and Brett Powell. Two sisters, Wilma Owen of Webber, Kansas and Winifred LaBarge of Kansas City, Missouri along with many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 2:00 PM from
the Rosemound Cemetery south of Hardy, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry
officiating.
Interment was in the Rosemound Cemetery at So. Hardy, Nebraska.

Charles Everett Graham

Christian Biography of Charles Everett Graham

Charles Everett Graham, the son of Ralph and Anna (Ross) Graham, was born on May 9, 1923 on a farm near Webber, Kansas. He passed away on October 25, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Charles was the sixth one of eleven children. He attended grade school and graduated from Webber High School in 1941, and was a member of the outstanding basketball team of that era. Charles Graham was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army stationed in the Philippine Islands.
He was united in marriage to Nadine Florence Grummert on August 16, 1948 in Superior, Nebraska. This marriage was blessed with two children
Charles was employed by Sellers Tractor Company in Salina, Kansas, and represented that company as a territory manager in western Kansas for six years. While living in Colby, Kansas, Mr. Graham served as an elder in the Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the committee which was instrumental in the construction of the existing church building.
Charles was later named Sales Manager and then Vice-President of Sellers Tractor.
In 1975, Charles Graham founded Graham Equipment Company in Des Moines, Iowa, and remained as president until his retirement in 1986.
Charles was respected for his competitive spirit not only in business, but also on the golf course, playing cards or shooting baskets. Charles had a large circle of friends and family, delighted in chefing duties for business and social occasions and enjoyed dancing at weddings and reunions.
Charles served for many years as a regional representative to the Associated Equipment Dealers. He was active in the Webber Alumni Association and was a member of BPOE Lodge #718, Salina.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Nadine on March 30, 1984; seven brothers, Dale, John, Lawrence, Clyde, Kermit, Morris and Melvin.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Ann Rehberger and husband Tom of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and son Gregory Charles Graham and wife Berta of Yankton, South Dakota; six grandchildren, and three sisters, Ila Callaway of Mankato, Kansas, Norma Ridle of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mildred Heflin of McAllen, Texas; and his long time companion, Mary Shriver of Mankato, Kansas; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 10:00 AM from
the Webber United Methodist Church in Webber, Kansas with Pastor Joyce Beam
officiating. Music was “Shall We Gather At The River” and “The Lord’s Prayer”, solo by
Kate Graham with Carlita Erickson as the organist.
Inurnment was in the Webber Cemetery at Webber, Kansas.

William Clair Sloane

Christian Biography of William “Clair” Sloane

William Clair Sloane, the son of Albert and Ethel (Decker) Sloane, was born on October 10, 1922 near Mt. Clare, Nebraska. He passed away on October 21, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, and 11 days.
Clair was one of five children who grew up on the family farm near Mt. Clare. He graduated in 1940, furthering his education in Radio and Signal Corps School in Manhattan, Kansas and Milford, Nebraska. He was inducted into the Army Air Corp on August 23, 1943 at Fort Crook, Nebraska, and was honorably discharged on March 14,1946, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. While in the service Clair worked as a radar repairman of airborne equipment used on B-29 type aircrafts, and was also a Carbine Sharpshooter.
He was united in marriage to Edith Earlene McDonald on July 29, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, Nebraska and this union blessed with eleven children.
Clair was employed as a heavy equipment operator at the Ideal Cement Plant in Superior, Nebraska. He was a member of the Superior American Legion and VFW club,Past president of the United Cement Lime & Gypsum Worker Local 83.
Preceded him in death were his parents; one son, Albert John; two brothers, Don and Fredrick; and one sister, Bernita.
Survivors include his wife Edith of Superior, Nebraska, children, Teresa Wilson and husband Joe, William F. “Bill” all of Superior, Nebraska, Monica Buster and husband Eldon of Deshler, Nebraska, Robert and wife Lavonna of Superior, Nebraska, Patrick and wife Kelly of Fremont, Nebraska, Donald and wife Peg, Karen Harwell and husband Ron,Janice Hatzenbuehler and husband Chuck and Jennifer Wyatt and husband Alan all of Superior, Nebraska, and John and wife Ginger of Abilene, Kansas; 29 grandchildren and
33 great grandchildren, one sister, Doris Wright of Melvindale, Michigan along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 1:30 PM from the
Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Father Philip Luther officiating.
Recorded music selections of “Amazing Grace,” and “How Great Thou Art” were played.
Pallbearers were Jason Griffith, Jamie Harwell, Joshua Harwell, Cody Wyatt,
Michael Buster and Thad Buster.
Private Family Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Hebron,
Nebraska with Full Military Rites by the Superior American Legion St. Mihel Post #103.

Delbert Hensley

Christian Biography of Delbert D. Hensley

Delbert Dewane Hensley, the son of Carl and LaVern (Rakestraw) Hensley, was born on July 9, 1936 at Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on October 13, 2007 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 4 days.
Delbert attended the Superior Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He held memberships in the Superior Eagles Club and Simic Roller Skating Rink Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dwight and Cecil and six sisters, Iva Jean Hensley, Barbara Gray, Donna Wyscaver, Josephine Derowitch, Diane Imler and Genevie Hoddie.
He is survived by three daughters, Cindy Hensley and Tony Birchfield both of Independence, Oregon and Muriel Smith and husband Walter of Russell, Kansas. One son, Russell Hensley and wife Michelle of Russell, Kansas. Seven grandchildren, Cory and Brian Birchfield, Amber Hensley, Bradley and Weylin Gray and Michael and Marie Smith. One sister, Flora VanWinkel of Utah along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services with full military rites were held on Thursday, October 18,
2007 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska
with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Music was “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged
Cross.”
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Gray, Cecil Imler, William Gray and George
Lamb.
Inurnment was in the Washington Cemetery near Byron, Nebraska.

Wilma I. Bennett

Christian Biography of Wilma I. Bennett

Wilma Irene Bennett, the daughter of Roy and Jessie (Comstock) Snavely, was
born on February 21, 1925 at Nelson, Nebraska. She passed away on October 11, 2007 at
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 7 months and
6 days.
Wilma attended school in Nelson, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to
Clifford Kinzie in1942. She later married Wayne Bennett on December 20, 1947.
Wilma lived in the Nelson and Superior communities from 1947 until moving to
Beatrice in 1969 where she was employed at Petersen Manufacturing Company in Dewitt,
Nebraska, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2006 where she resided until her death.
She was a member of the Firemen’s Auxiliary serving as a Past President, and a
member of the Baptist Church and it’s Ladies Circle while living in Superior. She
enjoyed reading, and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne on January 26, 1986,
sons, Michael Kinzie and Charles Bennett and one sister, Helen Johnson.
Survivors include her sons, Steve Bennett and wife Deb of Lincoln, Nebraska, and
Robert Kinzie of Deshler, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM from the
Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with David Sherwood officiating.
Music was “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”, with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and
Carlita Erickson as organist.
Pallbearers were Chris Cox, Bill Reimers, Bob Scrivner, Jared Bennett, Darrell
Beck and Bobby Fayle.
Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska
