Christian Biography of Donald D. Gebers Donald Duane Gebers, the only child of Rudolph and Adella (Peters) Gebers was born on November 15, 1931 on a farm near Nora, Nebraska. A month later he was baptized on December 16, 1931, in his parents farm home. He was confirmed August 5,1945, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, Nebraska. He passed away at his home in Nora on Monday, June 21, 2010. Don attended grade school through 8th grade in Nora and high school in Superior graduating with the class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He served in Germany for 1 year, where he enjoyed visiting his aunts and uncles who still resided in rural Germany. On April 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Helen Wulf at Salem Lutheran Church. During their marriage, Don and Helen did much traveling,visiting every state in the U.S. They also toured several countries in Europe and stayed with Don's relatives in Germany while they were there. Don farmed near Nora for 56 years. He enjoyed raising cattle. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's ball games. He was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church where he currently was chairman of the church council. He enjoyed mowing the church grounds and cemetery. Don served on the Farmers Union elevator board for many years. He was a member of Ruskin Legion Post # 242, currently serving as Adjutant. He also was member of Nelson VFW Post. He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Adella Gebers. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 54 years, three sons, David and wife Sherry,Nora, Steve and wife Diane, Nora, and Tom and wife Kim, Fairmont, 6 grandchildren,Jamie Gebers, Dubuque, Iowa, Stacia Gebers and Haley Gebers, Nora, Nebraska, and Seth, Brette and Reese Gebers, Fairmont, Nebraska. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at from the Salem Lutheran Church in Rural Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Scot McCluskey officiating. Music was provided by the Hobelman Brothers: Bill, Wayne, Lance and David singing “Children Of The Heavenly Father,” and congregational hymns “Lord take My Hand and Lead Me,” “On Eagles Wings,” and “Lift High The Cross,” with Sonia Schmidt as organist. Pallbearers were Ron Hofts, Marvin Lewis, Irvin Schleufer, Charles Stiles,Gordon Watts and Roger Williams. Honorary Pallbearers were Mary Ann Meyer, Dale and Pat Frahm, Ron and LaVeta Porter, Ken and Joan Schiermeyer, Darrell and Donna Jensen, Gene and Twila Frerichs, Lars and Bonnie Pedersen and Salem Lutheran Church Council Members. Interment with full military rites by the Ruskin American Legion Post #242 was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Superior, Nebraska.
