Christian Biography of Delitha "Dee" O. Ross

     Dee Ross, the daughter of Charles Elmer and Mary Jesse (Adams) Lacy, was born on November 19, 1921 in Concordia, Kansas. She passed away on August 4, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 15 days.

     Dee grew up on a farm near Formoso, Kansas. After attending school in Formosa, Dee moved to Kansas City, Missouri. As part of the "Rosie the Riveter" generation, Dee drove a bus for the Phillips Petroleum Refinery during World War II. At the end of the war, she returned to Formosa and met Carl Ross. They were married on August 7, 1948. Carl and Dee lived on several farms in Jewell county before settling on their own farm 13 miles north of Mankato, Kansas. They raised their daughters there and lived on the farm for most of their 37 years of marriage, moving to Superior, Nebraska when Carl’s health failed.

      Dee was active in her girls school and 4-H activities. Dee and Carl were always available to carpool their girls and their friends to the various school programs, ball games and community activities. Dee enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing with friends, her many dog and cat companions, and reading. She kept a daily journal of activities for over 50 years.

     Dee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Superior and participated in the Women’s Baptist Bible Study Group, the Martha Circle, Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed going to church and attending many church events until ill health kept her confined to her home. Dee was also a member of the Rebecca’s Lodge and the Superior Birthday Club.

     Dee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl on September 24, 1987; brother, Edgar Lacy and brothers-in-law Charles McDaniel, Don Ross, Harold Thompson, Vernon Terrill, sisters-in-law, Ella Elena, Wilma Terrill, Doris Ross and nephew Paul McDaniel.

     She is survived by her daughters Ruth Hale and husband Larry of Juniata, Nebraska and Linda Preston and husband Bruce of Ft. Collins, Colorado; sister, Vida McDaniel of Mesa, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, Dianna Dean, Lee Hale and wife Diana, Frank Hale, Curtis Hale and wife Denise, Aaron Preston, and Alix Preston; 7 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Ross, Vera Thompson, Letha Essinger and husband Don; brothers-in-law, George Ross and wife Linda and Raymond Ross; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

 

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Floyd Richardson officiating. Music was "The Old Rugged Cross," and "In The Garden," with Gloria Garman-Schlaefli as soloist and Carlita Erickson as organist.Pallbearers were Jerry Vader, Gene Johnson, Jim Stone, Paul Pettit, Bob Sloane and Roger Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren Dianna Dean, Lee Hale, Frank Hale, Curtis Hale, Aaron Preston, Alix Preston and David Hale.
