Christian Biography of Roger A. Wilton Sr.

Roger A. Wilton, Sr., age 68, of Superior, died Friday, December 30, 2011, at Wathena, Kansas. He was born February 11, 1943, at Superior, Nebraska, to Clarence and Ila (Rogers) Wilton.

Roger was a member of the class of 1961 at Superior High School. Roger was united in marriage to Elinor Lynn McFarland on June 18, 1963, in Superior, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with two children, Shirley and Roger, Jr. The couple lived their entire married life on Lynn’s family farm in rural Superior.

Roger was a lifetime resident of the Superior-Bostwick area. He spent his life doing what he truly loved; working the land. Roger and Lynn were proud to be the recipients of two Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Family Farm Awards, which are presented to families who continue to farm the same land for 100 years. They received one the Wilton family farm in 2007 and one for the McFarland family farm in 2011. Not only did Roger farm, he was also a talented mechanic and plumber. Other jobs Roger had included moving pianos for Lynn’s store with his family and working as a ringman for Gale Mikkelsen Real Estate and Auction.

Along with farming, Roger and Lynn raised purebred Norwegian Elkhound dogs. They have sold puppies all over the United States and enjoyed traveling and meeting people who were buying their puppies. Roger was also an avid antique tractor fan who, together with Lynn, hosted tractor pulls and tractor rides for over 25 years. Roger also enjoyed the challenges of restoring antique tractors, working on several with his son, Roger, Jr. Anyone who knew Roger knew that his blood ran John Deere Green.

Roger was a true friend to everyone around him. He was quick to help anyone who needed it. Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and could often be found in a heated game of pinochle. Roger took great joy in lovingly teasing those he cared about, but would always do it with a twinkle in his eye.

Roger was a member of the Olive Hill Church in rural Kansas, where he served as a deacon, a trustee, and an usher. He was a founding member of the Borderline Tractor Pullers Association. Roger was a member of the Farmers Union, the Simic Roller-skating Rink Association, and the Jaycees.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ila (Rogers) Wilton and sister Shirley Wilton.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lynn, of Superior; daughter, Shirley Johnson and husband Kragh , of Prague, Nebraska; son Roger Wilton Jr. and wife Kristen, of Gresham, Nebraska; grandchildren Samuel, Ann, Clare, and William Wilton of Gresham, Nebraska, and Louis and Abbygail Johnson of Prague, Nebraska; brothers Harold Wilton and wife Lorna of South Superior, Kansas, and Gilbert Wilton and wife Roberta of Denver, Colorado; sister Colleen Barleen and husband Dewayne of St. Paul, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and a host of friends.

#36 Janice Ward and Family 2012-01-18 15:30 Lynn, Shirley, Roger Jr, and Family, My deepest sympathy to you all. I have so many great memories of Roger from working at the store. I still remember like yesterday, when he came in the back door i had broke one of his Mother's cereamics and i was trying to superglue it back together only to glue my two fingers together. He laughed at me so hard and didnt let me forget about it for a long time. I will treasure that memory forever. Love you all, Janice Quote

#37 Corey, Jackie, Chari & Caden Mikkelsen 2012-01-19 10:00 Lynn, Shirley, Roger Jr. & Families. If there is ANYTHING you need or we can do, please don't hesitate to ask. This is one of life's most difficult times that you are challenged with. I must say that when I read Roger's biography he got one more chuckle out of me when I read the line about how "He took great joy in lovingly teasing those he cared about, but would always do it with a twinkle in his eye." That is so true and is just one of the great things about him that will be missed by many. We will deeply miss him at auctions and outside of work as well. Our deepest sympathy is with you. Take care & God Bless!!! Quote
