Christian Biography of Arthur Lloyd Sole

Arthur Lloyd Sole, the son of Clarence and Alleen (Smith) Sole, was born on March 6, 1932 in Geneva, Nebraska. He passed away on January 8, 2014 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 10 months, 2 days.

Art was one of four children born to this family. His family moved to a small farm Southeast of Nelson in 1934. He lost his mother on Mother's Day in 1938 and his father in 1962.

Growing up he attended school in Nelson, Nebraska and joined the United States Army on March 22, 1949, becoming an Army Paratrooper during the Korean War. He made 2 jumps behind enemy lines in Korea and was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on June 22, 1952. He was very proud of being a paratrooper, and proud for having served his country along with his brothers Gene and Allan.

He was united in marriage to Doris Matson in 1953 and together they had a son, Michael. He later married Barbara (Bowers) Harris on March 12, 1988 in Juniata, Nebraska.

Art was a loving father and husband even though he was on the road a lot. He loved fishing and hunting in his younger days, and always had a garden. He bought a fifth wheel camper and spent many happy hours and days traveling across the country and seeing relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Alleen; his brother Allan and sister Marianne Stineman.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of Hastings, Nebraska; son Michael of Maui, Hawaii; brother Clarence (Gene) Sole and wife Beverly; sister-in-law Karen Sole all of Nelson, Nebraska; step children, Kathy Inhofe and family of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeff and Linda Harris and family of Fairbury, Nebraska, Gerry Harris of Grand Island, Nebraska, and David and Linda Harris and family of Huntsville, Alabama; many step grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
