Bernard G. "Bernie" Herbek passed away at his home October 29th, 2014; with family and friends around him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, NE with Father Tom Bush celebrant and Monsignor Adrian Herbek, brother, as concelebrant. Viewing of the body will be in the entrance of church before Mass. Burial will be in the cemetery of their home parish, Our Lady of Assumption, Deweese, Ne. Roeder Mortuary of Omaha and Price Funeral Home of Superior, NE are serving the family.
Bernard, son of George and Mary (Drudik) Herbek was born August 22nd, 1932 on the farm by Deweese, NE, Nuckolls County. He attended Pleasant Hill Grade School, graduated from Nelson High School 1949. He served in the Army from 1953-1955 Korean War with an Honorable Discharge. Bernard was united in marriage to Dolores Soucie (Hupf), lived, raised their family and operated the farm until 1995. Later in 2008 moved to Omaha, NE to be close to their daughter Theresa and her family in their older age.
Bernard's two sons, Terrence and family and Timothy and family live in St. Louis, MO. Bernard not only farmed, but painted with Kucera Painting, numerous carpentry remodeling, wood working. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Assumption Church as trustee 12 years, president of Catholic Workman Fraternal Society many years, member of Knights of Columbus and VFW member. He was very active in the Deweese community coaching ball teams, and was instrumental in starting the Community Club sponsoring a yearly festival.
Left to cherish Bernie's memory is his wife Dolores of 58 years; his two sons and one daughter; oldest son Terrence (Susan) Herbek and three grandchildren Turner, Grace, and Calvin; son Timothy (Erica) Herbek and one granddaughter Boston; Daughter Theresa (Nathan Lampmann) and one granddaughter Kate; one brother Rev. Monsignor Adrian Herbek, retired priest of Lincoln Diocese.. Three sisters: Mildred (Arnold deceased) Lemke of Hastings, NE, Mary Ellen (Michael Karsting) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Sister Rosaline Herbek, Marian Sister of Waverly, NE, 48 nieces and nephews, many cousins, and countless friends.
Bernard was preceded in death by his father George in 2001, his mother Mary in 1979, and many aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, donations to family wishes, including the Marian Sisters of Waverly, NE. are welcome.
