Bernard J. Miller, was born on December 23, 1932, near Mount Clare, Nebraska, to Levi and Josephine (Kimminau) Miller. A faithful servant of God and a devoted family man, Bernard went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 29 days.

Raised just two miles from St. Stephen's Catholic Church near Lawrence, Nebraska, Bernard's life was deeply rooted in faith from an early age. He attended church and school at St. Stephen's through the 8th grade, often walking or driving a horse and buggy with his siblings, carefully placing the horse in his grandparents' barn while attending school. These early years formed the foundation of his strong work ethic and spiritual grounding.

As a young man, Bernard was known for his willingness to serve and support others. Around the age of 18 or 19, he moved in with a local family to help during a time of need, farming, milking cows, and transporting the children to school—all while earning $120 a month plus room and board. This spirit of humble service remained a hallmark of his life.

At age 24, Bernard moved to Geneva, Nebraska, where he worked for John Friesen drilling wells. It was there that he met the love of his life, Joan Merryman. Recognizing God's hand in bringing them together, Bernard and Joan were united in holy matrimony on August 4, 1959. Their union was blessed with a life of love, labor, and lasting commitment.

Shortly after their marriage, Bernard and Joan settled in Lincoln, Nebraska. Bernard worked a variety of jobs, including at Gooches Mills, with a carpenter, and later at Cushman. They purchased a home, renovated the basement, and rented it out—an early sign of Bernard's entrepreneurial spirit and resourcefulness.

In 1963, Bernard and Joan purchased a farm near Shickley, Nebraska, where they raised their family and worked the land together. Bernard was a self-taught man—intelligent, determined, and capable. He farmed with diligence, repaired his own equipment, and took on carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work. He remodeled their farmhouse with his own hands, even digging the basement himself—with Joan faithfully by his side. His strong hands built more than just barns and shops—they built a life of faith, resilience, and purpose.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan, brothers Vince and Gene; brothers-in-law Jerome Mazour, Bill Rowley, and Glen Hulet and sister-in-law Helen Miller.

He is survived by his children James (Kim) Miller of Shickley and Elizabeth (Bob) Webb of Lincoln; grandchildren Jameson, Huntington (Lauren), Alexis (Caleb), Cody (Melissa), Drew, Courtney, Shalee (Richard), Austin (Jill), Patrick (Lindy), and Andrew (Kelsey); 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings Bernice Miller, Rita Miller, Alfred (Agnes) Miller, Wilfred Miller, Rose Rowley, Betty Mazour, and Marge Hulet, and a brother-in-law Don Merryman. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of dear friends.

Bernard Miller's life was a testimony of faith, family, and perseverance. His hands built a life of purpose, his heart loved without condition, and his soul now rests in eternal peace with his Savior. Well done, good and faithful servant.
