Christian Biography of Berniece Lorene (Silsby) Harris

The daughter of James and Iva (Lamb) Silsby, was born on December 4, 1929, on the family farm near Northbranch, Kansas. She went to her heavenly home on December 27, 2023, at Brodstone Healthcare in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years, and 23 days. Berniece was one of 12 children. She graduated from Burr Oak High School with the class of 1947. She was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Young Matrons Club and Eastern Star.

She was united in marriage to Charles Jay Harris on August 14, 1947. This marriage was blessed with three sons: James Willard, Charles Michael and Jerry Wayne. They lived, farmed and raised livestock on the family farm northeast of Burr Oak. She enjoyed keeping track of the crops and livestock on the farm. She especially loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed hearing about her great grandchildren's adventures. She was an avid Kansas University basketball fan and loved playing pitch. She has been described as being full of spunk, amazing, neighbor, friend, and one of a kind, more like a sister than an aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. On January 3, 2019, she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska. She loved the outdoors, feeding and watching the squirrels, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and visiting with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles on June 20, 1994; two brothers: Doyle Silsby and Boyd Silsby, nine sisters: Thelma Pierson, Glendora Paxton, Madeline Pinkston, Belle Kandelin, Fern Harris, Edythe Francis, Mary Ohmstede and twin infant girls, all her brothers-in-law, and sister-in-law Dodie Silsby.

She is survived by her three sons: Jim and wife Michell and Mike all of Burr Oak, Kansas; and Jerry of Superior, Nebraska. Six grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Silsby of Auburn, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
