Christian Biography of Betty Smith
Betty Jane Dagmar (Jeppesen) Smith, 92, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Jensen) Jeppesen was born on January 3, 1925 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. She died January 20, 2017 at her home in Superior, Nebraska.
Betty attended Guide Rock school in her formative years then moved with her family to Superior where she graduated with the SHS Class of 1942. She began working with the telephone company in Superior as a switch board operator until her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Arnold G. Smith on February 16, 1947 at Superior. To this union three children were born. Betty and Smitty began farm life on his Uncle's ranch on the White Rock Creek near Courtland, Kansas until 1959 when they moved their family to Superior. Betty resumed working as a switch board operator at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co., until the company implemented direct dial services, in 1964. At that time, she was asked to work as a business office clerk in the LT&T office and continued until her retirement in 1985.
Betty enjoyed baking as well as planning and preparing meals for family gatherings and celebrations. She often read through recipe books as though they were novels.
She attended the Church of Christ in Superior and helped organize church and funeral dinners for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold, in 2012; sisters, Sylvia Cox, Marian Anderson, Donna Benson and Shirley Ann Jeppesen.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Combs, son James Smith and wife, Lorraine, and daughter Barbara Thomsen and husband, Neil, all of Superior, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Amber (Combs) Kenney and husband Dan, Jon and wife Amber, Sandy (Smith) Watkins and husband Lance, Jesse Smith and wife Charity, Mike Smith and wife Kara, Brooke (Thomsen) Coshow and husband Kyle, Kara (Thomsen) Wells and husband Aaron and Andrea Thomsen; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler Combs, Ethan Woerner and Ryan Kridler, Holly and Mia Watkins, William and Weston Coshow, and Austin and Fallon Wells and Emma Smith; sisters, Evelyn Sweet, Superior, and Susan Wellman, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday January 23, 2017 at 10:30 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Ben Poole officiating.
Music was congregational hymns, "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" with Carlita Price as organist.
Pallbearers were Marlin Smith, Jon Combs, Jesse Smith, Mike Smith, Kyle Coshow, Aaron Wells and Austin Wells.
Honorary Pallbearers were Amber Kenney, Sandy Watkins, Brooke Coshow, Kara Wells, and Andrea Thomsen.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Church of Christ.
