Christian Biography of Brian Karnatz

Brian Don Karnatz was born on October 17, 1958 in Deshler, NE, the second child and first son of Ray and Margaret Karnatz of Davenport, NE.  He passed away on Oct. 7, 2017 in Lincoln at the age of 58, 11 months, and 21 days.
Brian was baptized and confirmed at Christ's Lutheran Church in Davenport, NE and regularly attended services at Sheridan Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE.
Raised on a farm north of Davenport, Brian began his education as a kindergartner at Davenport's Community School in 1964. He graduated in 1977 and attended Central Technical Community College in Hastings, NE and studied construction management.
Brian made his home in Ruskin, NE and Superior, NE before moving to Lincoln, NE in 1985. In Lincoln, he began working for Mann Customs as Foreman of Construction.  He worked for Mann for more than 30 years and up until the time he became ill. Brian was a professional and built many beautiful homes with quality workmanship. He had exceptional skills and was asked by many home owners to perform construction work.
As a young adult, Brian achieved the Boy Scout's highest award and honor, 'Eagle Scout'.  Brian enjoyed all sports and was a member of the Davenport Grain Fast Pitch softball team.  While in Lincoln, he also coached a fast pitch women's softball team from which several cherished friendships were made.
He was known by many for his dry humor and sometimes hilarious funny remarks.  He was an avid member of the Fast Breakers, the UNL Women's Basketball booster club acting as Membership Chairman and holding women's season basketball tickets for many years. He enjoyed sharing his season tickets with his nieces and nephews.

Brian often traveled the backroads of Nebraska, visiting rivers, creeks and bridges. He studied maps and knew all of the Nebraska county numbers on license plates. He enjoyed golfing at many Nebraska golf courses and solving crossword puzzles.

Brian will be missed by many close friends and family. He is survived by his son, Austin Karnatz of Superior, NE, his father and mother, Ray and Margaret Karnatz of Davenport, NE, sister, Joanne Erickson and her husband, Keith of Gilbert, AZ, sister, Nancy Schlautman and her husband, Neal of Saronville, NE, sister, Lisa Karnatz of Gilbert, AZ, and brother, Bruce Karnatz of Kearney, NE. Brian leaves behind nephews; Kirk Erickson and wife, Brittany and daughter, Charlotte of Gilbert, AZ, Taylor Schlautman and wife, Kayla of Wahoo, NE, and Cody Stadler of Lincoln, NE; nieces, Mackenzie Bartek and husband, Kyle of Lincoln, NE, Neale Stadler of Lincoln, NE and Sydney Stadler of Kearney, NE.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Christ's Lutheran Church in Davenport, Nebraska with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating.

Music is congregational hymns "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry," and "How Great Thou Art," and recording of "I Can Only Imagine," with Deb Johnson as the organist.

Visitation held on October 11, 2017 from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm with the family present.

Pallbearers are Gayle Becwar, Richard Soukup, Wally Bates, Terry Bauer, Rod Henkel and Gary Grone. Honorary Pallbearers are Kirk Erickson, Taylor Schlautman, Cody Stadler, Kyle Bartek, Keith Erickson and Neal Schlautman.

Interment in the Davenport City Cemetery at Davenport, Nebraska.

Memorials to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
