Christian Biography of Calvin A. Hiner

Calvin A. Hiner, the son of Orville and Gladys (Wylie) Hiner, was born on December 22, 1924 on a farm near Endicott, Nebraska. He passed away on November 21, 2017 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 10 months, 30 days.

Calvin was a graduate of Fairbury High School, and he attended Fairbury Junior College. On Valentine's Day in 1943, he married his sweetheart, True LaJean Valentine in Marysville, Kansas. To this union 3 children were born.

He enlisted in the 8 ^th Army Air Force on August 17, 1943, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged on September 29, 1945. He worked as an independent Insurance Agent until his retirement. His wife, Jean passed away on November 7, 1994 and Calvin later married Glenda Thayer in 1996.

Calvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Superior Country Club, Elks Lodge, Kiwanis, Red Caps, Chamber of Commerce, VFW and the American Legion.

Calvin had a passion for golf, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed Western novels and movies, and following Cornhusker Football. He was a charter student at Fairbury Junior College. His family and grandchildren were very important to him and enjoyed following their sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives' Jean and Glenda, and two sisters Marjorie and Lucille.

Survivors include his son Calvin Jr. and wife Sally of Hackensack, Minnesota; Roger and wife Barbara of Arvada, Colorado and daughter Susan Benignus and husband Bill of Burr Oak, Kansas; 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
