Christian Biography of Charleen Adcock

Myrna Charleen (Holsteen) Adcock, 97, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 3, 2018, in her home at Kingswood Court, Superior, Nebraska. Affectionately known as "Aha", Charleen was born in Nelson, NE on January 23, 1921.  She was the third child of six children born to Mabel (Boomer) and Dio Holsteen.

She married Dale Adcock in 1940 and they were blessed with two children, Janet Lou and Thomas Dale. Dale and Charleen celebrated their 78 th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2018.

Charleen graduated from Nelson High School in 1937. She attended the University of Nebraska and Lincoln School of Commerce.  She worked in the business office at The Hotel Lincoln; the Lincoln Presbyterian Church; and as a clerk/stenographer at Swift & Company in Beatrice, NE.  After their marriage, Charleen and Dale lived in Omaha for a time where she was a secretary for radio station WOW's Aunt Mary (a homemaker's talk show).  After they moved back to the Superior area, Charleen worked for a time as a secretary/reporter for the Superior Express.

She was a member of the Superior United Methodist Church and PEO chapter DS. She served for a time on the Brodstone Hospital's administrative board and the Superior Planning Commission.

Charleen enjoyed music. She played the organ, sang in small groups, and was a longtime member of the church choir.  Her hobbies included sewing, bridge, reading, swimming, ceramics, and plants/flowers.  She was an excellent cook and baker.  Her talent for home decorating made every house a cozy home.  She learned to manage the electronic age and enjoyed sharing emails and Facebook posts with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; much loved and greatly missed daughter, Janet Caster (Clark, SD); sisters Ruth Nicholls (Lincoln, NE); Lois Mumford (Hebron, NE); Vonna Firestone (Casper, WY); and brother Gene Holsteen (Nelson, NE).

Survivors include her husband, Dale, of Superior, NE; sister Shirley Janssen (Dick – Colorado Springs, CO); her son Tom Adcock (Rita – Hays, KS); granddaughter, Rebecca Rogowski (Hays, KS); grandsons Jeff Caster (Carrie – Mount Dora, FL); Dr. Jon Caster (Nacogdoches, TX); and Joe Caster (Watertown, SD). Eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters; and numerous loved (and loving) nieces and nephews.
