Christian Biography of Charlotte V Christensen

Charlotte Virginia Christensen, the daughter of Ray and Annette (Andersen) Christiansen, was the first baby to be born at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska on January 7, 1928. She passed away on June 14, 2019 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 5 months, 7 days.

Charlotte was baptized on February 26, 1928 by Rev. Andres Hansen at Bethany Lutheran and confirmed on May 19, 1943 by Rev. Johan H. Petersen at Bethany Lutheran. She was a lifelong member and active in Altar Guild, and Women's Organization.  She established many lifelong friendships in the Nebraska Synod Women's Organization while participating in many Saved to Serve projects and attending numerous other state events.

She graduated Hardy High School at Hardy, Nebraska.  She attended the Lincoln School of Commerce and worked for a short time in Lincoln. On June 13, 1948 she was united in marriage to Benny Christensen at Bethany Lutheran in Ruskin and to this union was born five children.  Charlotte worked beside her husband on the farm milking cows, raising chickens and tending a large garden while their children were growing up. She treasured time with her family which included attending many athletic and musical events of the grandchildren and when part or all of the family gathered for special celebrations and holidays.

Charlotte also enjoyed spending time with friends as a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Spring Creek Square Dance group, various card groups and volunteering at the Vestey Center in Superior. She enjoyed attending Husker Basketball for a few seasons and traveling with senior bus trips. She was even able to travel to the childhood home of her mother and grandparents in Denmark. Charlotte enjoyed sewing and quilting classes where she made many quilted items for her family which are now treasured.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin "Benny" and one brother, Arden Christiansen.

She is survived by her children, Doyle and wife Teresa of Superior, Nebraska, Dorcas Judy and husband Larry of Ruskin, Nebraska, Rogene Gay and special friend Randy Stutzman of Hastings, Nebraska, Randy and wife Diane of Gretna, Nebraska and Rhonda Healey and husband Bob of Kearney, Nebraska. 17 grandchildren, Darcie Christensen, Marti Blecha, Brett Christensen, Brock Christensen, Brian Judy, Renae Bailey, Lori Kermoade, Joni Renz, Jock Renz, Jed Renz, Ben Christensen, David Christensen, Rachel Murphy, Jenny Christensen, Nick Christensen, Bridget Christensen and Elizabeth Christensen. 30 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Pauline Christensen of Riceville, Iowa and Bert Christensen of Superior, Nebraska along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 10:30 am from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska with Rev. Lori E. L. Kitzing and Rev. Dan Christensen officiating.

Music was "Beautiful Savior" sung by Rachel Murphy, Jenny Christensen, Bridget Christensen and Elizabeth Christensen with congregational hymns "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less," and "I Was Here To Hear Your Borning Cry," with Jeannie Homan as the organist.

Visitation was held on Monday June 17, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.

Pallbearers were Brett Christensen, Brock Christensen, Brian Judy, Jock Renz, Jed Renz, Ben Christensen, David Christensen and Nick Christensen.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska.
