Christian Biography of Chester "Chet" L. Ewer

Chester Lee Ewer, the son of Oscar and Cora (Harding) Ewer, was born on March 12, 1920 on a farm near Montrose, Kansas. He passed away on December 27, 2012 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 9 months, 15 days.

Chester was the youngest of eight children. He was baptized at age 14. He received his formal education attending Pavonia School in Jewell County Kansas.

He was united in marriage to Helen Darling on September 12, 1941 at Beloit, Kansas and to this union was born three children. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 21, 1942, during this time Chester and Helen lived in California and Washington State and Chester was honorably discharged on May 17, 1945 as Corporal of the 959th Field Artillery Battalion having served in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

He worked for 41 years for the Nebraska Public Power and its predecessors as a lineman on Superior's line crew. In 1946 Chester and Helen moved to Clay Center, Nebraska where he served as crew foreman, and in 1963 they moved to Guide Rock, Nebraska where he served as manager.

Chester was a past member of the Clay Center Fire Department, and the Guide Rock Lions Club. His retirement years were enjoyed by his woodworking and gardening. On December 1, 2005 he moved to Superior, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen on April 17, 1999; son Melvin on December 22, 2012; brothers Warren, Everett, Martin and Ruben; sisters Ethel Anderson Ola Mattison and Opal Haak.

He is survived by his daughter Ellamae Moravek of Superior, Nebraska and son Gary Ewer of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday December 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.

Music was "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".

Visitation was held on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior.

Pallbearers were Rick Albertson, Randy Baylie, Michael Hoskins, Michael Harris, Steve Shearer and Sam Mohler. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Hartman and Kenneth Hartman.

Interment with full military rites was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
