Christian Biography of Chrissie Ahrens

Chrissie Elvis Ahrens, the son of Chris and Hattie (Martin) Ahrens, was born on February 12, 1918 in Jewell County Kansas. He passed away on October 18, 2013 at his home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 8 months, 6 days.

He grew up and attended country school and graduated from Mankato High School. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Superior and was baptized as a teenage in the Republican River.


On September 21, 1937 he was united in marriage to Maybelle Purcell in Phillipsburg, Kansas and to this union two children were born. They raised their family on the farm in Jewell County and lived there until moving to the Vestey Center in September of 2006 due to his wife's health. While living in the Holmwood township Chrissie and Maybelle received the Mankato Chamber of Commerce Farmer's Plaque where one farm family is recognized each year for outstanding service to Extension 4-H and the community.

He was a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maybelle on April 28, 2008; and sister Pearl Langer.

He is survived by his son Gene Ahrens of Mankato, Kansas and daughter Sharon Martin of Superior, Nebraska; granddaughter Chris Johanson and husband Rick and grandson Steve Martin all of Superior, Nebraska; eight great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services were held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Arick Johanson officiating.

Music was "God Understands" and "Does Jesus Care", led by Hillary DuFour with Paula Renz as the accompanist.

Book signing was held on Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM with family present to greet friends from 2-5 PM at the Funeral Home.

Inurnment will be at 5:00 PM at the Mount Hope Cemetery at Mankato, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
