Christian Biography of Clarence E. Gebers
Clarence Ernest Friedrick Gebers, the son of Christoph Heinrick and Christena (Marquart) Gebers, was born on March 30, 1926 near Hardy, Nebraska. He passed away on June 9, 2015 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 2 months, 10 days.
He was baptized on April 18, 1926 at St. Peters in Byron, Nebraska by Rev. Seybolt. Before Clarence's first birthday, his father passed away. His mother Christena remarried William Ritterling and Clarence grew up around the Byron area on the farm. He went to country school to the eighth grade and then helped on the farm. He was confirmed on May 5, 1940 at St. John's in Byron by Rev. Lientz.
In February of 1945 the Army called and Clarence was inducted into the service. He served with the Military Police and Medical Corps, be honorably discharged on December 7, 1946. He returned back to the community and started farming. Clarence married the love of his life; Wauhnetta Hespen on June 18, 1950 at Peace Lutheran and to this union two children were born. They were married for 62 years.
In 1957 they moved from the farm to Nora, Nebraska where Clarence was employed by Walster Williams for 17 years. He then worked at Reinke Manufacturing for 6 years; for the Nora Elevator from 1980 until he retired at the age of 75 in 2001.
He was a 58 year member of the Salem Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of the Byron American Legion Post 205.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wauhnetta on June 14, 2013; and half-brother Arlen Ritterling
He is survived by his daughter Debra Corman and husband Doug of Grand Island, Nebraska and son Dennis Gebers and wife Carla of Superior, Nebraska. Five grandchildren, Jason Corman and wife Tracy of Queen Creek, Arizona, Nathan Corman and wife Stephanie of Grand Island, Nebraska, Lorrie Corman of Omaha, Nebraska, Tyson Gebers and Carly Gebers of Superior, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren, Cash, Elyot and Atleigh Corman of Grand Island, Nebraska. He is also survived by his half-sister Verna Fuller of Deshler, Nebraska; sisters-in-law Lovetta Weiss of Lincoln, Nebraska, Darlene Wiger of Minnesota, Rachel Skeahan of Arkansas, Loxie Ehlers and husband Arnold of Nebraska City, Nebraska and Ruth Gray of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Salem Lutheran Church rural Superior, Nebraska with Pastors Don and Margaret Olson officiating.
Music was congregational hymns "The Old Rugged Cross," "Amazing Grace," and "Rock of Ages," with Sonia Schmidt as the organist.
Pallbearers were Jason Corman, Nathan Corman, Tyson Gebers, Darrell Fuller, Roger Williams and Mike Thayer. Honorary Pallbearers were Lorrie Corman, Carly Gebers, Julie Hoeffeldt, Cash Corman, Elyot Corman, Wesley Fuller, Atleigh Corman, Renae Fuller and Kevin Fuller.
Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery rural Superior, Nebraska
