Christian Biography of Clarence "Bud" Sykes

Clarence "Bud" Sykes, the son of Fredrick and Clara (Clabaugh) Sykes, was born on July 20, 1915, on a farm near Ruskin, Nebraska. He passed away on December 7, 2012 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska following an illness at the age of 97 years, 4 months, 17 days.

Bud's mother died when he was three days old. He was raised by his maternal grandmother until the age of nine when he went to live on the farm near Ruskin with his father and two brothers. He lived there during the depression and the "dirty thirties."

Bud was united in marriage to Lorraine Wall on June 19, 1942 in Belleville, Kansas. To this union two daughters were born. They made their home in Ruskin and were able to celebrate 57 years of marriage.

Bud farmed for a few years and then worked at the Ruskin Lumberyard until it closed. He worked the last few years before his retirement in the maintenance department at Deshler Public Schools.

Bud was a hardworking man who believed you didn't quit until the job was done. He enjoyed his garden and produced enough vegetables every year to feed his family and many others in the community. Bud was a good family man and always showed his love and support to his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorraine on April 23, 1999, brothers Albert and George; sons-in-law Jack Prentiss and Art Hickman and his grandson Russell Prentiss.

He is survived by his daughters Judie Prentiss of Fairmont, Nebraska and Georgia Hickman of Superior, Nebraska; granddaughters Abby Hickman of Superior, Nebraska and Margie Prentiss of Fairmont, Nebraska; his great granddaughter Alyse Carlson of Polk, Nebraska and great grandchildren John O'Rourke of Hastings, Nebraska, James O'Rourke of Norfolk, Virginia, Jeff Hickman of Norfolk, Virginia, Ben Bruning of Killeen, Texas, Phillip Bruning of Milford, Nebraska, Shane Bennett of Fairmont, Nebraska, Dustin Frank and Cori Frank of St. Louis, Missouri; and great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.

Music was "The Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden," and "Go Rest High On That Mountain," with Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Carlita Price as the organist.

Visitation was held on Monday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Pallbearers were Tregan Albers, Ed Schoof, LaVeryl Kleen, Wylie Jensen, Larry Henrichs, and Denny Schoof. Honorary Pallbears were Abby Hickman, Alyse Carlson, John O'Rourke, James O'Rourke, Jeff Hickman, Ben Bruning and Phillip Bruning.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
