Christian Biography of Claris Samsula

Claris Irene Samsula, the daughter of Bernhard and Edna (Wegener) Mussmann, was born on September 14, 1926 in Ruskin, Nebraska. She passed away on March 5, 2018 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 5 months, 19 days.

Claris was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's in Ruskin. She attended St. Mark's Lutheran Country School thru the 8 ^th grade.

She married Martin Poppe on November 29, 1943. He preceded her in death. On February 10, 1968, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska, she was united in marriage to Albert Samsula. Claris was employed by Petersen Oil, Scroggins Bank and Oak Post Office throughout her working career. She was a member of St. Mark's Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Ladies Aide. She enjoyed playing cards, music, reading, attending Church, watching TV, movies and puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ben & Edna; husbands Martin Poppe and Albert Samsula; son Kenneth; grandsons Fred Jr., Craig Maschmann and Matthew Schoof. Siblings Wilma and Otto Moeller, Norma and Elia Grueber, Hildreth and Marvin Freitag, Loretta Jane Mussmann, Orlin and Wilber Mussmann, son-in-law Larry Hansen, and brother-in-law Larry Biltoft.

Survivors include her children Gilbert (Linda) Poppe of St. Paul, Nebraska; Ardith (Fred) Maschmann of Ruskin, Nebraska; Linda Loontjer of Deshler, Nebraska; Brenda (Edward) Schoof of Ruskin, Nebraska; Gaylar Poppe and special friend Kimberly Wilson of Frontenac, Kansas; Daryl Poppe and special friend Penney Bovee of Lincoln, Nebraska; Barry (Sue) Samsula of Plano, Texas; David Samsula of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Bryan Poppe, Brent (Cayli) Poppe, Dawn (Brandon) Draeger, Debra (Damon) McDonald, Troy (Colleen) Hansen, Tamra (Dale) Luzum, Audra (Jon) Capek, Amy (Todd) Voss, Angela (John) Puelz, Alesha (Matt) Vieselmeyer, Trenton Poppe, and special friend Connor Shuck, Marissa Poppe and special friend Kenneth Moses, Tanner (fiancé Ali) Poppe, Tairra Strine, Sharmayn (Derick) Hiatt, Duncan Poppe, Aaron (Rosemary) Samsula and Autum (Jason) Casey; great grandchildren Brittney (Marcus) Andersen, Kara, Blayke, Elayne Poppe; Brayden and Paige Poppe; Morgan and Turner Hill, Camry, Kynleigh, and Keaton Draeger; Cole, Jaelyn, Gradyn, Holden, Rigley, and Traigan McDonald; Jenscena, Mikeala; Grant and Colton Hansen; Jacklyn, Derek, Trevor and Hailey Luzum; Quinten Loontjer and Stormi Capek; Karlee, Julian, and Paula Voss; Josie, Joshua, Jonny and Jesse Puelz; Allie and Lainey Vieselmeyer; Kaelan and Leax Hiatt, and Lucas and Larson Samsula; great-great grandchildren Jack and Caroline Andersen; brothers Verlan (Jeanette) of Hebron, Nebraska; Berwyn (Millie) of Eden, Idaho; sisters Lucille (Conrad) Nelson of Lincoln, Nebraska; Iona Biltoft of Ruskin, Nebraska; and Lila (Russell) Schroeder of Davenport, Nebraska; sister-in-law Gwen (Gale) Johnson; along with a host of many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:30 pm from the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Francik officiating.

Music was "How Great Thou Art," solo by Matt Vieselmeyer, congregational hymns, "Lord take My Hand and Lead Me," "I'm But A Stranger Here," and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "God Know Your Name," duet by Karlee Voss and Josie Puelz with Anita Harms as the accompanist. Poem reading by Dawn Draeger.

Book signing was held on Friday from 4-8 with family present from 7-8.

Pallbearers were Bryan Poppe, Brent Poppe, Dawn Draeger, Debra McDonald, Troy Hansen, Tamra Luzum, Audra Capek, Amy Voss, Angela Puelz, Alesha Vieselmeyer, Trenton Poppe, Marissa Poppe, Tanner Poppe, Tairra Strine, Sharmayn Hiatt, Duncan Poppe, Aaron Samsula and Autum Casey.

Private family inurnment will be a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Oak, Nebraska.
