Dr Dale E Kinyoun, the son of Robert and Alma (Ross) Kinyoun, was born on December 28, 1927 in Formoso, Kansas. He passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 26 days.
Dale had two siblings. He graduated from Lovewell High School in Lovewell, Kansas as a junior and continued his senior year as a pre-veterinary student at Kansas State University. Dale was accepted into the veterinary medicine program in 1945 and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1951. Dale interrupted his studies at K-State when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 29,1946. Dale served two years as a corporal in the USMC before being honorably discharged on July 30, 1948.
Dale and Margaret were united in marriage on September 17, 1949 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with nine children. Dale and Margaret made their home in Superior, Nebraska
Dale practiced veterinary medicine in private practice for 40 years. Dale and classmate Dr. R.W. McNabb built the "Animal Hospital" with the relatively new concept of pens and chutes which allowed farmers to haul in large animals to be treated. The hospital also included surgical, treatment and boarding facilities for companion animals. Upon selling his practice in 1990, Dale became employed as a USDA Food Safety Inspector traveling to various communities in Nebraska. Dale received the 2009 Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Recognition Award presented by his longtime partner, Dr. Michael Moore, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dale retired on March 1, 1995.
Dale and Margaret were actively involved in their community. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, American Legion, VFW, Superior Country Club and was past-president of the Superior School Board, past-president of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) and the District 5 NVMA also a delegate to the national VMA, and an active K-State alumni. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing and K-State football.
Dale and Margaret enjoyed traveling, time spent with family and friends at their cabin on Lovewell Lake, horse racing, and in their later years, winters spent inSun City West, Arizona. Dale and Margaret eventually moved to Kingswood Court in Superior where they resided together prior to their deaths which occurred a day apart. A great ending to a 69-year love story.
Dale and Margaret together were preceded in death by their infant son William Robert and infant daughters Janice and Barbara.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret; parents Robert and Alma; his sister Lola Vale and two half-brothers Ross and Lyle Prather.
Survivors include six children: Joan (Dr. John) Ferguson of Omaha; Jean Kinyoun of Superior; Joe Kinyoun of Lincoln; Jeff (Marsha) Kinyoun of Superior; Judy (Kirk) Grove of Superior; and Jane (Paul)Kinyoun-Weston of Moscow, Idaho; 10 grandchildren: Hunter (Amber) Folkers; T.J. (Anne) Folkers; Carrie Strovers; Sara (Matt) Wesley; Jarad (Carlie) Kinyoun; Jena (Chris) Evans; Kyle (Kayla) Grove; Brady (Kayla) Grove; Dr. Jessica (Luke) Miller; Michael (Dr. Mary) Kinyoun; 16 great-grandchildren, one sister June Wyatt of Kearney; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A Tribute was held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Vickie Nielsen officiating.
Music was "On Eagle's Wings," Amazing Grace," and "Lord's Prayer," with Gloria Garman-Schlaefli as the organist with Vickie Nielsen as the soloist.
Private family inurnment was in the Webber Cemetery at Webber, Kansas.
