Christian Biography of Darlene Farver

Darlene Farver, the daughter of Herman and Elena Swanstrom, was born on August 15, 1931 in Oak, Nebraska. She passed away on June 16, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 10 months, 1 day.

Darlene was raised on a farm east of Nelson. She attended school in Ong, Davenport, and Shickley graduating from Shickley High School in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Maurice Carlson in January of 1951; he passed away in July of 1951. She later married Homer Gordon Farver in March of 1955; they were blessed with three children, raising their family west of Oak and moved to their home south of Nelson where they retired. As a young woman, Darlene cared for the ill and aged in their homes. After her marriage, she devoted full time to being a wife, mother and also helped on the farm. After her children were grown she joined the care staff at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center. In 1993 Darlene was recognized for her 12 years of faithful service and was selected as the center's Employee of the Year.

She was a member of the Nelson United Community Church of Christ. She enjoyed baking and sewing.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon on September 27, 2011; brothers Delbert and Dale.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Max Farver and wife Debra of Yankton, South Dakota and 2 daughters Peggy Bargen and husband Kent of Superior, Nebraska and Brenda Betts of Gretna, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren, Jason and Aaron Farver, Andrew, Adrian and Jessica Bargen and Ashley, Kelly and Sean Betts; 5 great grandchildren; one sister Marilyn Schoof and husband Lavon of Edgar, Nebraska, one brother Donald Swanstrom and wife Norma of Henryetta, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law, Doris Swanstrom of Moses Lake, Washington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating.

Music was "In the Garden," and "Amazing Grace," with Ruth Watts as soloist and Carlita Price as organist.

Visitation was held on Thursday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jason Farver, Aaron Farver, Andrew Bargen, Adrian Bargen, Jessica Bargen, Ashley Betts, Kelly Betts and Sean Betts.

Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.
