Christian Biography of Darlene B. Woerner

Darlene Bernice Woerner, the daughter of Rex and Nora (Mock) Thomas, was born on September 10, 1931 in Stewartsville, Missouri. She passed away on January 6, 2014 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 3 months, 27 days.

Darlene graduated from Burr Oak, Kansas High School. On January 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Robert B. Woerner, Jr. at Olive Hill Church south of Superior, Nebraska and to this union five children were born.

Darlene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Rebekah Lodge, Northwest Country Club, Presbyterian Women's Association, Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Sod Buster Camping Club, Fairfield Square Dance Club, and was a 4-H leader of the Alban and Saddle Tramps Clubs. Family was Darlene's number one priority and she ensured all her kids and grandkids learned to swim. She was an excellent cook, known for her potato salad, tea rings and pies; and loved to sew, quilt and embroider. Darlene had great organizational skills and volunteered numerous places in the community. She always had a wonderful garden, enjoyed bird watching, especially Hummingbirds; loved working on crossword puzzles and watching the Huskers. Bob and Darlene spent time camping, fishing and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. From their first date they danced and waltzed their way through 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Ruth Jensen.


She is survived by her husband Robert of Superior, Nebraska; children, Linda Hall and husband Terry of Hastings, Nebraska, Duane Woerner and wife Barbara of Superior, Nebraska, Beverly Mayfield and husband Richard of Beatrice, Nebraska, Marsha Kinyoun and husband Jeff of Superior, Nebraska, and Beth Woerner of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Becky Busboom, Aadel Bussinger and husband Jay, Vanessa Pruitt and husband Adam, Tracy Donner and partner Jason Sunquist, Amber Nelson and husband Eli Resnick, Annie Nelson and partner Spencer Vaiskunas, Jessica Miller and husband Luke, and Michael Kinyoun and special friend Mary Wulff; 12 great-grandchildren, a sister, Betty Sybert of Savannah, Missouri and a brother, Bill Thomas and wife Barb of Mankato, Kansas and sister-in-law, Betty Ann Carter of Scottsdale, Arizona along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating.

Music was "In The Garden" solo by Joyce Morgan "How Great Thou Art," and recording of "Can I Have This Dance," with Carlita Price as the accompanist.

Visitation was held on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00PM.

Pallbearers were Tracy Donner, Jason Sunquist, Amber Nelson, Eli Resnick, Becky Busboom, Annie Nelson, Spencer Vaiskunas, Jessica Miller, Luke Miller, Michael Kinyoun, Kealey Donner and Taylor Donner.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
