Darrell Eugene Ward, the son of Frank and Edith (Siebenneicher) Ward, was born on June 3, 1933 in Deshler, Nebraska. He passed away on June 16, 2021 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 88 years.
Darrell started school in Ruskin and continued at a country school near Oak, through the 8 th grade. He was baptized in 1952 at Davenport and was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.
He married Marjorie Hineline on June 7, 1953 at Davenport. This union was blessed with 4 children. He was drafted into the United States Army on July 26, 1954 as a heavy weapons infantryman and was discharged on July 16, 1956, transferring to Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service.
Darrell was a heavy equipment operator and he also was an instructor. He taught 14 years at the North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit, Kansas. His hobby was restoring old Chevy trucks and tractors. He enjoyed sitting under his shade tree in his garden, and playing with his horses and tomcat. He liked to take his Allis Chalmers tractor to Old Trusty Days. He enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling on tv with his wife and grandkids.
He was a current member of the VFW in Deweese. He entered Parkview Haven Nursing Home in April of 2019 due to his health.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Donnis Genung and granddaughter Feliesha
Ward in 2000.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie of the home; his children Rodney Ward, Brian Ward and Carmen (Jason) Wahl all of Nelson and Jason (Billie) Ward of Glenvil; grandchildren Melissa Ward of Superior, Lacey (Clint) Holland of LaCygne, Kansas, Miranda (special friend Slade)Ward of Fairfield, Nathan (fiancé Meghan) Breland of Leakesville, Mississippi; Brandon (special friend Marissa) of Omaha, Maekayla Ward, Denver, Maekenzy Ward of Beatrice, Coby Ward of Nelson, Natasha (Colby) Frei of Geneva, Natalia Wehrman Nelson, Chizm Bilbrey of Nelson, Skylar Wahl, Shaylynn Wahl and Jerzey Wahl, Jaslyn Ward of Ohiowa, Nebraska; Morgan Weston of Lincoln, and Delani Hult of Hastings; 6 great grandchildren Tye Ward, Oakley Ward, Lane Ward, Wyatt Holland, Ben Holland and Isaac McCall of Lincoln; siblings Janet (Bob) Galley of Broad Brooke, CT; Mary Drapal of Superior; Karen Henderson of Avoca, Iowa and Elaine Degner of Superior; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Toby Boyle officiating.
Music was "In The Garden," sung by Stephanie Thayer with Linda Ostdiek as her accompanist and recorded music "Faded Love," "You Should Be Here" and "Eighteen Wheels and a dozen roses."
Pallbearers were Nathan Breland, Brandon Ward, Colby Frei, Clint Holland, Dean Kennedy, Curtis Carver and Chizm Bilbrey. Honorary Pallbearers were Melissa Ward, Lacey Holland, Miranda Ward, Maekayla Ward, Natasha Frei, Natalie Wehrman and Jaslyn Ward.
Interment with Military Honors was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
