Christian Biography of Donald "Squirt" Edwards



Donald Roy Edwards, the son of C. R. and Velma (McKinney) Edwards, was born on December 11, 1932 on the family farm south of Hardy in Jewell County Kansas. He passed away on December 1, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 11 months, 20 days.

Squirt was one of 12 children. Growing up he attended school in Hardy and graduated from Hardy High School. He served in the United States Armed Forces. On July 22, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joan Christine Berthold in Pasco, Washington and to this union a daughter, Lisa was born. Squirt worked as a land leveler when he was first married. He later worked at the Mobile Station on Highway 8 at Hardy which was known as Edwards Service Station which he later purchased. He also ran a tank wagon for many years at the station and also for Hardy Coop. Upon his retirement in 1995 and soon after moving to Arizona and Colorado, he still used his mechanical skills at his daughter and son-in-laws golf courses.

He was a member of the Legion Post #179 in Hardy, Superior Country Club, and Elks Lodge. He was a former Mayor of Hardy. He loved to golf, got many youth involved in the game also. He liked all sports, bowling and the family basketball team.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers Robert, George, Russell and Bruce Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Superior, daughter, Lisa Bruening and husband Stuart and grandson, Brock all of Larkspur, Colorado; brothers Paul Edwards and wife Denelda and Glenn "Dane" Edwards and wife JoAnne all of Hardy, Nebraska, Kenneth Edwards of Sabetha, Kansas, and sisters Elsie Talent of Hiawatha, Kansas, Norma Hobson and husband Elvin "Spud" of Courtland, Kansas, Margaret Tomlinson of Lincoln, Nebraska and Donna Miller and husband Jim of Superior, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.

Music was recordings of "On Eagles Wings" and "You Raise Me Up," and congregational hym "How Great Thou Art" with Carlita Price as the accompanist.

Visitation was held on December 5, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with family present to greet friends from 5-6.

Pallbearers were Paul Edwards, Glen Edwards, Kenny Edwards, Brock Bruening, Stuart Bruening, and Lloyd Jensen. Honorary Pallbearers were Elvin Hobson, Jim Miller, Greg Edwards, Dr. Dennis Edwards, Kevin Miller and Steve Edwards.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Hardy Cemetery at Hardy, Nebraska.
