Christian Biography of Don Johanson

Donald Dean Johanson, the son of Einer and Ella (Johnson) Johanson, was born on October 8, 1925 in Hardy, Nebraska. He passed away on March 6, 2017 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 4 months, 26 days.

Don was one of three children, growing up he attended school in Hardy, graduating from Hardy High School. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska. He was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Superior, Nebraska. On March 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Betty Davidson at Belleville, Kansas and to this union 5 children were born.

Don retired from Ideal Basic Cement Plant in Superior. He loved spending time with family and friends, dancing and Nebraska Football. He enjoyed farming part-time and raising a few cattle on the side. His leisure time was spent hunting, fishing, camping, especially at Lovewell Lake, and new cars. He was a member of the Elks Club. Don was very proud of his church and community, he really loved Superior.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Einer and Ella; wife, Betty on February 9, 2011; son Rick Johanson and daughter Gloria Klabunde and infant daughter Judith; brother, Einer Jr. "Joe"; and sister Irene Elizabeth.

Survivors include his sons Steve and wife Cathy of Bennet, Nebraska and Jeff of Lincoln, Nebraska; son-in-law Richard Klabunde of Omaha, Nebraska and daughter-in-law Chris Johanson of Kearney, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Irvin Schleufer, and Arick Johanson officiating.

Music was congregational hymns "Amazing Grace," and "Blessed Assurance," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" duet by Arick Johanson and Hillary Dufour with Carlita Price as the accompanist and recessional "12 Th Street Rag," recording.

Visitation was held on Friday from 4-8 PM with the family present from 5-7.

Pallbearers were Pat Klabunde, David Klabunde, Nik Johanson, Arick Johanson, Nathan Johanson, Shawn Johanson, Joshua Johanson, and Jacob Johanson. Honorary Pallbearers were Majken Shirmang, Hillary Dufour, Kacey Mehl, Brandi Pearson and Britni Johanson.

Interment was in the Hardy Cemetery at Hardy, Nebraska.
