Christian Biography of Donald D. Kottmeyer

Donald Dean Kottmeyer, the son of Alfred and Mina (Baker) Kottmeyer, was born on January 20, 1939 on his Grandparents farm near Bladen, Nebraska. He passed away on August 6, 2013 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 74 years, 6 months, 17 days.

Don attended school in Superior and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1957. He was an active 49 year church member of the First Baptist Church, in Superior, Nebraska, serving on many church boards. On December 31, 1961 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hughes in Superior and to this union three children were born.

Don was engaged in farming and worked at Aurora Coop and also the Superior Good Samaritan Society in the maintenance department.

He was a member of the Rural Hardy Fire Board serving as President for many years. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with everyone, wood-working, coin collecting and hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Jim Hughes, John Hughes and Bill Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Hardy, Nebraska; children Joan Shellhase and husband Keith of Ord, Nebraska; Phillip and wife Mary of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Brenda Rumery and husband Kent of Skiatook, Oklahoma; sister Charlotte Kroeger and husband Ken of Hastings, Nebraska; eight grandchildren Matthew and Andi Shellhase, Lexus, Benjamin, and MaKenzie Kottmeyer, Taylor, Kara and Kailey Rumery; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Gordon Harper officiating.

Music was "Amazing Grace" and "Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart," with Carlita Price - Organist, Stephanie Thayer - Soloist.

Visitation was held on Friday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM until the services.

Pallbearers were Stan Meyer, Keith Wilt, Luke Meyers, Scott Meyer, Matt Meyer, and Kent Bargen. Honorary Pallbearers were Lloyd Jensen, Fred Meyers, Larry Nondorf, Gene Johnson, Kenneth Duncan and David Aksamit.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
