Christian Biography of Dora Pettit

Dora Pettit, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Shaffer) Mallam, was born on August 30, 1926 southwest of Bostwick, Nebraska. She passed away on January 21, 2015 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 4 months, 22 days.

Dora was baptized in 1940 by Rev. Dugger in the Baptist Church and she attended school in Superior. On December 31, 1949 she was united in marriage to Charles "Sonny" Pettit at the Mankato, Kansas courthouse. This union was blessed with two daughters, Connie and Patty.

While raising her family, Dora also worked as a waitress, cleaned homes and sold Stanley products. She was a member of the Eagles and VFW Auxiliaries.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sonny on December 26, 1996; son-in-law Dennis Whitten, three brothers Don, Charles and William and wife Mary Mallam and two sisters Velma Schrithfield and Alice McCarthy.

She is survived by her daughters Connie Duffy of Superior, Nebraska and Patty Whitten of Blue Hill, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren: Monica (Duffy) Mertink and husband Matt, Angela (Whitten) Dickinson and husband Gerry, Lisa (Whitten) Curd and husband Tyson, Renae Whitten, Christina (Whitten) Betterton and husband Brandon and Britany Whitten; 4 great grandchildren: Nathan Dickinson, Matthew Dale Mertink, Austin Curd and Natalee Sell and sister-in-law Audrey Mallam; nieces, nephew, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.

Music was solo's "Amazing Grace," and "Beyond the Sunset," by Stephanie Thayer with Carlita Price as her accompanist and Carrie Underwood recording of "How Great Thou Art."

Visitation was held on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with family present to greet friends from 5-8.

Pallbearers were Matt Mertink, Gerry Dickinson, Mitch Sell, Tyson Curd, Brandon Betterton and Lonnie Whitten.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
