Christian Biography of Doris Jones
Doris Mae Jones, the daughter of Bert and Velma (Bruce) Leslie, was born on September 24, 1927 in Garber, Oklahoma. She passed away on March 24, 2015 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, and 6 months.
Doris grew up with two brothers and a sister. She received her formal education attending schools at Oklahoma and Hutchinson Kansas and graduated from Superior High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nora and later the Methodist Church in Superior. Doris was united in marriage to Dean Jones on August 18, 1946 and to this union three sons were born. They later divorced.
Doris was employed for 26 years at the Nuckolls County Courthouse serving as Deputy County Treasure. She also worked at the Superior Public Library, waitressing at the Hotel Leslie coffee shop on Sundays, and worked at the City Light Office when it was in the Hotel Leslie.
Doris loved crafts, reading and sewing and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Velma, her sons Frank and Philip Dean "P.D." Jones, brothers Earl and Paul Leslie and sister Ruth Kuta.
She is survived by her son Craig Jones and wife Peggy of Elizabethton, Tennessee, daughter-in-law Sandy Jones of Nora, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Angela Gardner and husband B.J. of Nora, Nebraska; Carie Meyers and husband Sam of Mankato, Kansas; Toby Jones of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Aaron Jones and wife Katie of Seward, Nebraska; 7 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial graveside services were held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:30 am from the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers were Judy Kubicek, Betty Mazour, Mary Wheeland, Marcia Buresh, Evelyn Olson and Donna Jensen.
Inurnment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to go to the First United Methodist Church, or the Superior Public Library.
