Christian Biography of Drew L. Cassell

Drew Lee Cassell, the son of Donald and Peggy (Porter) Cassell, was born on December 30, 1990 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on January 19, 2013 near Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 22 years and 20 days.

Drew attended the Nelson Elementary schools and was a graduate of Lawrence Nelson High School's class of 2009. He attended Southeast Community College at Beatrice, Nebraska receiving his associates degree in Diversified Agriculture. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson and was baptized there by Father Frank Macovec and Confirmed by Father Philip Luther on April 30, 2003. Drew was employed at Superior Deshler in Superior.

Drew was a former member of the Lawrence/Nelson FFA and 4-H. He was active in the high school athletics and livestock judging. He also enjoyed riding horses, playing cards, playing softball, baseball and golf. He loved water sports, roping, hunting, camping, farming and hanging out with his friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Drew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Fern Cassell and uncles, Robert Sell and Charles Sell.

He is survived by his parents, Donald and Peggy Cassell of Nelson, Nebraska, grandparents, Ron and LaVeta Porter of Nelson, Nebraska, sisters, Denise Clements and husband Scott of Martell, Nebraska, Dina Hoelting and husband Wayne of Lawrence, Nebraska, Danielle Cassell of Valley, Nebraska, brother Dustin Cassell and wife Nicole of Nelson, Nebraska, nieces and nephews, Bailey, Briana, Brooklyn and Bryson Clements, Jace and Joel Hoelting and Addison, Kaliahna and Hoyt Cassell. Aunts and Uncles, Doug and Connie Porter and family of Nelson, Nebraska, Randy and Jacki Porter and family of Superior, Nebraska, Richard and Denise Porter and family of Elba, Nebraska, Pam McDermott and family of Lincoln, Nebraska and Joyce Sell and family of Hastings, Nebraska along with numerous cousins and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10:00 am from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Brad Zitek officiating. Lector was Gary Ostdiek, Acolyte's were Ron Rempe and Michael Kimminau, Altar Servers were Peyton Drudik, Colton Biltoft and Wyatt and Lane Heikkinen. Gift Bearers were Tammy Wright, Ashley Porter, Kayla Grove, Sarah Porter, Kristen Porter and Addyson McDermott.

Music was congregational hymns "Gather Us In," "Gift of Finest Wheat," "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art," and "The Dance" with Ivan Miller as Soloist and Song Leader.

Visitation was held on January 22, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior.

Pallbearers were Ryan Schroer, Garrett Schroer, Taylor Lynch, Garrett Hoins, Michael Schroer, Sam McCord, Matt Rempe and Andy Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers were Todd Sell, Jamie Sell, Scott Sell, Dale Sell, Michael Porter, Matt Porter, Mark Porter and Ross Porter.

Interment was in the
Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
