Christian Biography of Edwin John Schultz
Ed was one of seven children to Ova and Martha (Rasmussen) Schultz. He was born August 22, 1922 on the farm near Ruskin, Nebraska. He passed away on June 16, 2016 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the at of 93 years, 9 months and 25 days.
Ed graduated from Ruskin High School in 1939. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin, Nebraska. He was inducted into the United States Marines in 1942, where he was an acting drill instructor and a member of their baseball team. On January 8, 1950, he was confirmed at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Immanuel Petersen.
He was united in marriage to Bertha Mae Shaw on September 11, 1949 at Nelson, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Teresa, Larry, and Pam. They enjoyed traveling and camping.
Ed lived in the communities of Ruskin, Nebraska, Formoso, Kansas, and Superior, Nebraska. He was on the Ruskin Village Board for many years, Street Commissioner, farmed in Formoso, Kansas, was President of Bethany Lutheran Church, played semi-professional baseball in Nelson, Superior, Belleville, and Marysville. He coached Little League baseball. He was also a member of the Ruskin Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion in Ruskin, Post #0242, which he was very proud to carry the flag on Memorial Day for many years. He ran the service stations in Ruskin and Davenport; and later B&S Tire Market in Superior. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ova and Martha Schultz, his wife Bert on December 18, 2011; a grandson, Johnathon Gerberding; son-in-law, Ken Gerberding; brothers, Eugene "Bud" Schultz, Raymond Schultz, Wayne Schultz; and his sister, Madeline Schultz.
Survivors include daughter, Teresa Christensen and husband, Doyle, of Superior, Nebraska; son, Larry Schultz and wife, Jodie, of Superior, Nebraska; and daughter, Pam Tyma and husband, Tim, of Aurora, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Matt Schultz and wife, Missy, Marc Schultz and wife, Robbyn, Darcie Christensen, Marti Blecha and husband, Bryce, Brett Christensen, Brock Christensen, and Sharisa Tyma; 8 great-grandchildren: Bladen Blecha, Garrett Schultz, Tripp Schultz, Brinleigh Blecha, Bishop Blecha, Morgan Schultz, Chase Schultz, and Natalie Schultz; brother, Keith and wife Heral Jean of Superior; sister JoAnn and husband Cork of Deshler, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Muriel Shaw of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Geraldine Witt of Lincoln, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
