Edythe
Francis
Apr 3, 1926 — Jan 11, 2018
Edythe M. Francis, born April 3, 1926, died on January 11, 2018 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by husband, Harold Francis, in October of 2017 after 71 years of marriage.
Edythe was born on the family farm outside of North Branch, Kansas. She attended elementary school at the Quaker School in North Branch and high school in Burr Oak. After high school, she worked in Burr Oak and Franklin, Nebraska. During this time, she was corresponding with Harold who was serving in the US Navy in WWII. They married shortly after his discharge and lived in Franklin for a short time. They moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1947 where they made their home for almost 40 years and raised four children.
Edythe did not work outside of the home but kept herself busy with volunteer activities at the various schools her children attended. She was also active in the Natrona County Extension program and the Girl Scouts of America. She was always there for her four children as well as any neighborhood child who needed help with something, a homemade cookie to snack on, or just a hug and a smile.
Edythe and Harold returned to Burr Oak, Kansas, in the mid 1980's where they lived in the spring, summer, and fall while wintering in southern parts of the United States in their motor home. Edythe became a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Superior, Nebraska, in November of 2008 where she received exceptional care and established a wonderful extended family.
Edythe is survived by her four children: Sheri Sanford, Jeanette DiGrigoli, Patty Wagar, and Bob Francis. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom she thoroughly enjoyed.
A Celebration of Life Service for Harold and Edythe Francis will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, Kansas with Missie Wilt officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow at the Burr Oak Community Center at 12:00 PM.
