Christian Biography of Elaine LaDonna Henkel

Elaine Henkel, the daughter of H. Fred and Meta (Tewes) Ficken, was born on November 22, 1938 on the farm at rural Edgar, Nebraska. She was called to her eternal home on February 13, 2026 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 22 days.

Elaine was the youngest of 5 children. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the same church; St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Davenport, NE. She was washed in the waters of baptism on December 11, 1938, by Pastor D.R. Luebke. She was confirmed on April 6, 1952, by Pastor C.G. Stockamp with her confirmation verse being Psalm 37:5 - "Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass". On September 28, 1958, Elaine was united in marriage to Robert Henkel. Elaine's faith life has come full circle, as her funeral service is also held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on February 17, 2026.

Elaine's school years began with grades 1-4 at Aurora District 55 south of Sedan, Nebraska. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran School in Davenport, Nebraska for grades 5-8, and high school at Davenport High School. Elaine graduated with the class of 1956, of which she was valedictorian. She attended 1 year at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.

Bob and Elaine lived their entire married life in the Davenport/Ong area. To this union 3 children were born, Rodney Lee, Robin Lynne and Rick Allen.

Joyously greeting Elaine in heaven are her son, Rick Allen, her parents, Fred and Meta Ficken, her parents-in-law, George and Mary Henkel, her siblings, Anna Marie Rohr and husband Victor, Ervin Ficken and wife Berdina, Raymond Ficken and wife Artha and Edwin Ficken and wife Donna, and sister-in-law Evelyn Dee Pearson and husband Knox.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her husband of 67 years, Bob, son Rod Henkel and wife Cindy of Wahoo, Nebraska, daughter Robin and husband Nathan Schardt of Davenport, Nebraska, daughter-in-law Stacy Henkel of Gretna, Nebraska; grandchildren Tyler and Megan Schardt, Brandon and Nicole Henkel, Megan and Michael Shaw, Amber and Scott Ritzman, McKenna and Jayden Linnebur, Garrett and Kalee Schardt, Alex Henkel and Jackson Henkel; 9 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Sue Johnson and husband Dennis of Lincoln, Nebraska; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
