Christian Biography of Eldrick H. Grummert

Eldrick Ernst Henry Grummert, the son of John and Frieda (Warneking) Grummert, was born on a farm between Nelson and Superior on May 8, 1925. He passed away on November 14, 2013 at Superior Good Samaritan Society, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 6 months, 6 days.

Eldrick was baptized in May 1925 by Rev. Stolz and confirmed in August 1939 by Rev. Scholl at Salem Lutheran Church rural Superior.

He served in the armed forces in 1945-1946 during the World War II.

Eldrick and Elsie Rausher met in high school and were married in July 1946 and spent 67 years together farming and doing Volunteer community work. Eldrick has held every office in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Council, is a past Commander and Adjutant General of the Nelson American Legion. He has received the District 10 American Legion Good Citizen Award, past Nuckolls County Farmers Union President, served on the Nelson Farmers Union Oil Station board for many years. He was a 4-H leader for 29 years. In 1983 the Nuckolls County 4-H Council started presenting a plaque to a man and woman in honor of their outstanding 4-H service. Eldrick was the recipient of the first one awarded.

In 1943 Eldrick and one other student were the first ones in Nelson High School to be awarded the State Farmers Degree in FFA. He and Elsie delivered Toys for Tots for 15 years at Christmas, was Red Cross Volunteer and he received the Aksarben Pioneer award for having the same land in the Grummert name for 100 years.

Eldrick's primary farming crop was growing and selling Certified Seed Wheat. He was honored by the Nebraska Grain Association for producing outstanding quality seed wheat for over 30 years.

Regardless of how busy he was, he always was willing to help those less fortunate than he.

He was preceded in death by his son, Craig, who was adopted in 1954 and died in 2007, his parents, his stepmother, brother Galen and wife Mildred, and infant brother, 4 step brothers and 1 step sister.

He leaves to mourn his wife Elsie, a brother Milvern and wife Aileen of Glenvil, Nebraska; sister-in-law Dorothy Reeve of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, granddaughter Cindy Luft and husband Jerry, 1 step sister and 2 step brothers.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Irvin Schleufer officiating.

Music was "Mansion over the Hilltop" and "Jesus, Still Lead on," sung by Tom Jensen and congregation hymns "Beautiful Savior," and "Softly and Tenderly," with Carlita Price as accompanist.

Visitation was held on Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 with family greeting friends from 3-4 and Monday 9:00 until the services.

Pallbearers were Mark Lynch, Terry Grummert, Michael Grummert, Curtis Schiermeyer, Phil Peters, and Jerry Luft. Honorary Pallbearers were Steve Shroyer, John Melton, Allen Schiermeyer, Danny Grummert, Rodney Lynch and Ed Lynch.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
