Christian Biography of Ellen M. Overturf

Ellen Maxine Overturf, the daughter of Jimmie and Florence (Fitzwater) Kubicek, was born on September 5, 1929 on a farm north of Oak, Nebraska. She passed away on September 25, 2012 at her home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 83 years and 20 days.

Ellen was educated in Fletcher Country School near Oak and graduated from Nelson High School in 1946. Following graduation Ellen taught at Marshall Country School for one year and Pilgrim Country School for two years. She was united in marriage to Billy Overturf on February 20, 1949, in Ong, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 2 children. Ellen & Billy lived on the family farm north of Oak for 57 years until moving to Superior, Nebraska.

The joy of her life was her family. She enjoyed everyone's visits, letters and telephone calls as her grandchildren became located across the United States.

Ellen also enjoyed traveling with her husband. They traveled to Europe in 1991 and toured England, Paris and Amsterdam. They failed to tell their family where they were going so Billy and Ellen were missing for a few weeks. The family was used to them being gone for a few days, but a few weeks was unusual. While Billy was searching for gas engines and tractors around the country, Ellen made many friends; many of whom she maintained contact with in her later years. After Billy's death the girls learned from a longtime friend in Spain that Ellen was known by many of the men in the tractor world as "Peaches" since she was such a peach to put up with all of them and Billy during their many tractor and engine jaunts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Billy Lynn Overturf and granddaughter Kara Kay Knutson.

Survivors include her brother Gary Kubicek and wife JoAnnette of Oak, Nebraska, daughters Pamela Lynn Pearson and husband Randall of Davenport, Nebraska and Kay Ilene Knutson and husband Richard of Alma, Nebraska; four grandchildren Scott Pearson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Reese Pearson and wife Chaaron of Alexandria, Virginia; Beth Schweitzer and husband Jason of Atlanta, Georgia; and three great-grandchildren, Ava and Braylin Schweitzer and Dashiell Pearson; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:30 PM from the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, Nebraska with Pastor David Johnson officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jason Schweitzer, Tim Sizer, Reese Pearson, Scott Pearson and Mitchell Kubicek.

Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
