Christian Biography of Elmer J Rempe

Elmer Joseph Rempe, the son of Henry and Lena (Ilg) Rempe, was born on October 22, 1933 in Lawrence, Nebraska. He passed away on May 8, 2024 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 6 months, 16 days.

Elmer was one of eight children, he attended grade school thru the 4th grade at St. Stephen's, Lawrence then moving to Superior, he continued at Superior Public Schools, and later earned his GED. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 17, 1953 and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1955 serving during the Korean war. Returning from the service, to his fiancé Maxine Faimon, Elmer starting working at Yohns Dairy in Superior. They were married on June 6, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. This union was blessed with a son and daughter. They were happily married for 68 years. Elmer was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service, employed for many years.

He was an active 57-year member of Superior Volunteer Fire Department, Superior American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus member since 1954, Superior Red Caps and many community activities.

Elmer was an avid runner, participating in many marathons, half marathons, and many community races. He traveled to multiple states to participate in many races. He was awarded the Quilt of Valor in September of 2022. Heartbreak came early in Elmer's life when he lost his brother John in World War II, while serving his country. He also loved going to all sporting and school events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lena; brothers, Art, John, Leonard, Alphonse "Fat", Edward, Raymond and his sister Berniece.

He is survived by his wife Maxine of Superior; his son Gerald "Jerry" and wife Brenda of Wymore, Nebraska and his daughter Jeanne Darling and husband Steve of Apache Jct., Arizona; six grandchildren: Shane (Sarah) Darling, Jenna (Brad) Salber, Kylee (Nick) Nolte, Chelsea Darling, Elisa (Jacob) Zeiss, and Brett (Tessa) Darling; seven great grandchildren: Tristan and Connor Darling, Knox Zeiss, Hallie Nolte, MacKenna Darling, and Liam and Olive Darling; and sister-in-law Joan Rempe; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mass of Christian burial held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:00 am from the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Ferdinand Boehme officiating. Acolyte was Ron Rempe, Lector Mel Menke with Nolan Meyers, and Abram Carter as Altar Servers and Dr Tim Blecha gave the "Words of Remembrance."

Music was "Amazing Grace," "This Day God Gives Me," "How Great Thou Art," and "On Eagle's Wings," with Arnie Miller the vocalist and Jacki Porter the organist and "Thank You Lord" by Ivan Miller.

Visitation was held at Megrue-Price Funeral Home on Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present.

Pallbearers were Brett Darling, Brad Salber, Nick Nolte, Jacob Zeiss, Dwayne Buescher, Jim Rempe and Ryan Buescher. Honorary Pallbearers were Luke Meyers, Tim Meyers, Steve Henderson and Ryan Henderson.

Interment with military honors and Fire Department Last Call was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Superior Volunteer Fire Dept., VFW, American Legion or Family Choice.
