Christian Biography of Elvin "Spud" Hobson
Elvin "Spud" Carmi Hobson, the son of Clyde and Ida (Fischer) Hobson, was born on November 10, 1931 south of Hardy, Nebraska in Republic County Kansas. He passed away on August 21, 2017 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 11 days.
Spud was united in marriage to Norma Edwards on October 10, 1954 and to this union were born three children, Scott, Tony and Ann.
Spud was born in Republic County, raised there and then moved one quarter mile to Jewell County and lived his whole life there except for his 2 years of military service. On July 24,1952 he was inducted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1954.
He was a member of the American Legion and served on the Bostwick Irrigation Board and the Hardy Co-op Board of Directors.
Spud attended over 1000 basketball games, watching his kids, grandkids and son's teams play over the years. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher competing in several state meets.He enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends in Hardy and especially spending time with his family.
Spud was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Calvin and Clyde Jr..
He is survived by his wife Norma of Superior, Nebraska, sons Scott of Hastings, Nebraska and Tony and wife Becky of Hays, Kansas and one daughter Ann Hobson of Superior, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren, Jason Hobson, Mandy Kamykowski, Mackenzie Oberst, Jordan Tuma, Shae Tuma, Samantha Hobson and Cash Hobson. Nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Betty Becker of Black Mountain, NC, a brother Dean Hobson and wife Shirley of Seattle, WA, two sisters-in-law, Edie Hobson of Pittsburg, Kansas and Oleta Hobson of Belleville, Kansas along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
