Christian Biography of Emma Jane Stenson

Emma Jane Stenson, the daughter of Hollis and Ellie (Osborne) Cook, was born on January 11, 1921 on a farm near Courtland, Kansas. She passed away on October 31, 2012 at her home in Republic, Kansas at the age of 91 years, 9 months, 20 days.

Emma received her formal education attending Stover Country School near Jewell and graduated from Lovewell High School. She was united in marriage to Ernest Stenson on June 22, 1940. To this union four children were born.

Emma lived in and around the Republic and Jewell area all of her life with the exception of a couple years in California. In her younger days Emma was employed at the Jewell County Long Term Care, the Republic nursing home and was a waitress in Courtland, KS.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Courtland, Kansas and enjoyed quilting with the ladies there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest in 1969, son Gene in 2004, brothers Raymond and Kenneth Cook and sisters Mary Kracke and Winifred Graham.

She is survived by her daughters Janis Herron and husband Ken of Madisonville, Texas; Jo Ann Pawol and husband Jim of Hewitt, New Jersey; and Ruth Cromwell of Abilene, Kansas; daughter-in-law Lynn Stenson of Republic, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on November, 5, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating.

Recorded music of "Amazing Grace", "Old Rugged Cross," and "In The Garden," was played.

Visitation was held on Sunday 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Monday 9:00 AM until Services at Megrue-Price Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Emma's Grandchildren.

Interment was in the White Rock Cemetery at Republic, Kansas.
