Obituary

Ernest Blau, the son of Wilbur and Genevieve (Snell) Blau, was born on March 19, 1947 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on December 25, 2021 at the age of 74 years, 9 months, 6 days.

Ernie attended Nelson Public Schools. On September 12, 1965 he was united in marriage to Diane Skinner. To this union four children were born: Lisa Jolene, Christine, Brent and Angela.

He was the proud grandfather to eleven grandkids that he loved to spoil. He traveled to many sporting, music and drama events where he and Diane usually arrived before the participants.

Ernie loved spending time with his family, friends and his little dog "Freddie." He had a passion for many outdoor activities with animals especially horses and helping his friend Marv with his sheep. Fishing was his hobby of choice and he never missed an opportunity to grab his fishing pole and put it in the water.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Harness Hustlers, and 4-H leader for many years, and enjoyed Joseph Hall events. Ernie never met a stranger and would tell his stories to anyone that would listen. He would buy popcorn for any kid and give the shirt off his back for anyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Genevieve; wife Diane August 1, 2018; daughter Lisa Jolene; sister Virginia Blau; in-laws Dale and Doris Skinner and sister-in-law Connie Jolene Skinner, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dennis & Charla Skinner.

Survivors include his children Christine (Lynn) Stratman of Funk, Nebraska; Brent (Jennifer) Blau of Deshler, Nebraska; and Angela (Mitchell) Kathman of Lawrence, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren Marcus (Bailey) Tofflemire, Megan Tofflemire, Logan Stratman, Grace Stratman, Madeline Stratman, McKensi Blau, Brooklyn Blau, Treyton Blau, Rachel Kathman, Kaylee Kathman, and Darren Kathman; brother Richard (LeAnne) Blau of Hastings, Nebraska and sister and brother in-law Denise and Douglas Snow of Hastings, Nebraska; other relatives and host of friends.
