Christian Biography of Esther F. Schlamann
Esther Schlamann, the daughter of John and Anna (Kolling) Schlamann, was born on December 28, 1919 near Nelson, Nebraska. She passed away on October 10, 2015 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 9 months, 12 days.
Esther was baptized on January 18, 1920 by Pastor George Gundel, and confirmed on August 13, 1933 by Pastor Charles Bunge; both at Salem Lutheran Church.
She attended Daisy Dell Country School near Nelson, graduated from Nelson High School in 1938, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She taught elementary school at Fairview, Byron, and Superior retiring in 1986, after 45 years of teaching. Throughout her career, Esther had received several honors. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society serving as treasure for a long time and retired Teachers Association.
She was an active member in the Church serving as church organist for 24 years, lector, a member of the parish education committee, Salem Lutheran Women, taught Sunday school, and was a choir member.
She enjoyed reading, bird watching, flower tending, sewing, painting, and playing cards at the Vestey Center. She volunteered her time at the Hospital gift shop, Nifty Thrifty and the Nuckolls County Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Caroline (Louis) Doering, Leona Andersen (Dick) Garrelts, Alice (Dean) Wilken, Mildred (Herbert) Jensen, and Fern (Harvey) Schriever and one brother Walter (Lorna) Schlamann; nephews John Jensen, Jesse Jensen, and Meryln Andersen; nephew-in-law Tom Brandt.
She is survived by nieces, and nephews, great nieces, and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:30 am from the Salem Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska with Pastors Don and Margaret Olson officiating.
Music was congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Lift High The Cross," with Sonia Schmidt as the organist.
Pallbearers were Allan Houtwed, Dan Wilken, Russell Andersen, Lynn Schriever, Jerry Jensen, Jim Jensen, and Jay Jensen. Honorary Pallbearers were Karen Houtwed, Erlene Davis, Vicki Brandt, Cynthia Thomsen, Jolene Jensen, Serita Karmazin, and Gayle Hoops.
Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Superior, Nebraska.
