Christian Biography of Francis E. Placke

Francis Eugene Placke, the son of Arnold and Delores (Stamer) Placke, was born on July 30, 1942 in Hastings, Nebraska. He passed away on August 20, 2016 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 74 years and 21 days.

He attended Morton Elementary School in Hastings and Superior Public Schools in Superior. On June 22, 1962 he was united in marriage to Shari Lyn Hannegan and to this union was born three children. Francis was a lifelong member of Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior.

From the third grade on Francis never missed a day of school. He had a love of all things sports. In his younger days he played basketball, football, track and baseball. He was very competitive and athletic. He enjoyed watching his children in their sporting activities and later in life took up golfing with his boys. His wife, kids and grandkids were the most important thing in his life. He worked for Ideal Cement for 24 years until the plant closed. He and Shari owned and operated the liquor store downtown also for some time. For a short period he worked for the county assessor and then at the Wheelers store and car wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, George V. Person, brothers, Larry and Arnold and a nephew, Mark Placke.

He is survived by his wife, Shari of Superior, Teresa Barrett and husband Dave of Hastings, Nebraska, James Placke and wife Holly of Seward, Nebraska and Jeffrey Placke and wife Kelly of Seward, Nebraska. Eight grandchildren, Jordan Barrett, Brady Barrett, Lindsey Placke, Kendra Placke, Breanna Placke, Jordan Burhoop, Avery Placke and Cambry Placke. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dara Placke of Grand Island, Nebraska, his aunt, Irene Wendell of Hastings, Nebraska along with nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with David Watters officiating.

Music was "Somewhere over the Rainbow," "The Green Green Grass of Home" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Price as organist.

Pallbearers were Mel Crowe, Jay Nielsen, Steve Siebecker, Phil Stineman, Jerry Applegate, Bruce Thayer and Jay Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers were Marty Teitjen, Wylie Jensen, Dr. Tim Blecha, Tom Sorensen, Ron Thayer and Gene Bruening.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
