Christian Biography of Gerald "Gary" Thomas Follmer

Gerald "Gary" Thomas Follmer, the son of Donald and Muriel (Troudt) Follmer, was born on August 31, 1947 in Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away on August 8, 2015 at Bryan West Hospital at Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 67 years, 11 months, 8 days.

Gary attended schools and graduated from Nelson High School, Nelson, Nebraska. On December 27, 1969, he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Jenkins in Bringhurst, Indiana; and to this union were born two children, Rodney and Tracy. Gary owned and operated Follmer Construction in Superior, Nebraska and worked all over the area. Gary and Shirley also owned and operated Gary's Cafe in Superior for 18 years. His greatest joys were spending time with his wife and family.

He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church.in Superior, the Nelson American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

Preceding him in death were his father, Donald Thomas; brother, Craig; and niece, Corina Krieser.

Survivors include: his wife, Shirley of Superior, Nebraska; son, Rodney Follmer of Dallas, Texas; and daughter, Tracy Souchek and husband Ben of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandson, Blake Thomas Souchek of Lincoln, Nebraska; mother, Muriel Follmer of Nelson, Nebraska; 3 brothers, and 4 sisters, Dennis and wife Kathy of Davenport, Nebraska; Diane Krieser and husband Clark of Seward, Nebraska; Mike and wife Linda of Grand Island, Nebraska; Brenda Awsiukiewicz and husband Larry of Omaha, Nebraska; Gayle Follmer, Mark and wife Lyn of Lincoln, Nebraska; Shelley Kienow and husband Scott of Gretna, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Brad Zitek officiating.

Lector was Roger Souchek; Acolyte was Richard Sullivan; Altar Servers were Ezra Morris and Trenton Theis

Rosary services were held on Thursday August 13th at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Music was "Amazing Grace," "Gather Us In," "At That First Eucharist," and "On Eagle's Wings," with Betty Schott as organist.

Honorary Pallbearers were Gary's brothers and sisters, Dennis Follmer, Diane Krieser, Mike Follmer, Brenda Awsiukiewicz, Gayle Follmer, Mark Follmer and Shelley Kienow.

Inurnment with Full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #187 was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
