Christian Biography of Gary Johnston Roe

Gary Johnston Roe, the son of Glen and Verla (Vale) Roe, was born on February 5, 1940 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on March 3, 2016 at his home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, and 27 days.

Gary attended school in Superior, and especially enjoyed participating in the FFA program. He graduated from Superior High School. After graduation he attended Burlington Railroad Telegraph School, and earned his Associate Degree in Computer Science from Central Community College. He was a 45 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Superior.

Gary enlisted in the United States Army on November 1, 1961 at Omaha, Nebraska and was honorably discharged on October 30, 1964 earning the good conduct medal, and expert rifle and the carbine marksman medal. He was a member of the local VFW and American Legion Clubs.

Gary was united in marriage to Velda Lee on December 27, 1961 at Weeping Water, Nebraska and to this union 3 children were born. He was employed at New Holland, Mid-America Dairymen and Reinke Manufacturing.

Gary loved working on cars, going fishing, and he especially enjoyed camping with his family, whom he always put first in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Gregg on December 2, 2013, infant son Grant.

He is survived by his wife Velda of Superior, Nebraska; daughter Joni Anderson and husband John of Superior, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren, Garett Roe of Hastings, Nebraska; Kara Roe of Superior, Nebraska, and Breanna Roe of North Platte, Nebraska; 1 great grandson Jace Roe of North Platte, Nebraska; brother Roger Roe and wife Carol of Superior, Nebraska and sister Carol Ann Garman and husband Terry of Scandia, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services with Full Military Honors were held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Dorothy Smith officiating.

Recorded music was "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," "Class Of 57," "Little Brown Church," "Live Like Your Dying," and "Daddy Sang Base."
