Christian Biography of Genevieve Ebsen

Genevieve Hester McPherson Ebsen, daughter of McAlpin (Bill) McPherson and Bertha Lina Robinson McPherson was born September 24, 1914 on a farm 1 mile west of Bostwick. Her family moved to a farm near Holyoke, Colorado where they lived for several years. They returned to Guide Rock in 1921. She attended Guide Rock School all 12 years, graduating with the class of 1933.

In 1926, she was baptized and joined the First Christian Church in Guide Rock. She played the organ for the Sunday school there for several years. After her marriage, she attended the Bostwick Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. When the Bostwick church closed, she transferred her membership to the Superior United Methodist Church in Superior.

She taught school in Nuckolls County District #87 for two years, before her marriage to Irvin James Ebsen of Bostwick in 1936. During World War II she lived and worked in Kansas City while her husband served in the Army. After the war, she and Irvin returned to farm in Bostwick where their one child, Nancy Diane, was born.

She was an active member of the Bostwick Kensington, and the local extension club. She was a long time member and Past Matron of Olive Chapter 63, Order of the Eastern Star. In later years, she enjoyed being a member of the Border Babes Red Hat Society.

After the death of her husband she worked as a teacher's aide in the Bostwick School and for several years she worked at Mid-Nebraska Individual Services in Superior.

She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her trip to the McPherson ancestral home in Scotland. She was talented seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting gifts for her family. For many years, she attended most Nebraska home football games and even after she could no longer negotiate the steps, she cheered her Cornhuskers on from her recliner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin in 1970, her parents, two brothers, Donald (Mac) and Dean, and one sister, Margaret Grace Amy.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Edwards, Hardy, by her grandsons Aaron, of Kearney and Joshua and his wife Libby, of Hardy, 3 great-grandchildren, Tru, Harley, and Cypress Edwards, one sister, Mary Terrell of Lindenhurst, New York, a sister-in-law, Ruth MacPherson of Fort Mojave, Arizona and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the United Methodist Church - Kate Lyne Chapel - Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Tupper officiating.

Music was congregational hymn "In The Garden" with Carlita Price - Organist.

Book signing was held on August 8, 2013 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
