Christian Biography of George F. Sund, Sr.

George Fredrick Sund, Sr., the son of Oscar and Verma (Tavenner) Sund, was born on April 20, 1926 on a farm southwest of Bostwick, Nebraska. He passed away on December 11, 2013 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 7 months, 21 days.

The family lived on several farms in the Bostwick area where he attended rural and Guide Rock school and Superior High School graduating in 1944.

August 7, 1949 he married Ruby Marie Kottmeyer at Salem Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 4 children. They made their home Northwest of Bostwick for 26 years, and then moved Northeast of Guide Rock.

In his younger years as a 4H member, he enjoyed showing cattle at the Nuckolls County Fair and the Nebraska State Fair and Aksarben. He competed in the catch a calf contest at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and was successful in catching a calf. He was a lifetime member of the Angus Association. He served on the School Board for many years and was serving when the 2R School district was formed in 1956.

George enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising Angus cattle and operating his combine, and taking his grandchildren fishing.

George is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby on May 16, 2008, an infant brother, and brother Richard.

He is survived by his children, Rosemary Anderson and husband Roy of Guide Rock, Nebraska, George F. Sund, Jr and wife Ann of Cambridge, Nebraska, James Sund and wife Pam of Stevensville, Montana and Sharon Portenier and husband Kif of Harvard, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren, Dawn Caldwell and husband Matt of Edgar, Nebraska, Gail Martin and husband Jeremy of Hershey, Nebraska, Chris Anderson and wife Neile of Hastings, Nebraska, and Troy Anderson and wife Meghan of Guide Rock, Nebraska, Adam Sund of Holbrook, Nebraska, Kilee Oetjen and husband Hank of Walton, Nebraska, Abbie Albrecht and husband Andy of Thurston, Nebraska, and Jessie Portenier and Allie Portenier of Harvard, Nebraska; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaydee and Emmet Caldwell of Edgar, Nebraska, Chase, Regan and Kaitlin Martin of Hershey, Nebraska, Courtney and Alexis Anderson of Hastings, Nebraska, Zane Anderson of Guide Rock, Nebraska, Atwood and Ariat Albrecht of Thurston, Nebraska and Ruby, Willa and Lydia Oetjen of Walton, Nebraska; sisters-in-law Margaret Sund of Guide Rock, Nebraska, JoAnn Kottmeyer of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Nancy Hall and husband Richard of Wymore, Nebraska and brother-in-law Roy Kottmeyer of Guide Rock, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 3:00 pm from the Salem Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska with Pastors Don and Margaret Olsen officiating.

Music was "Whispering Hope" and "On Eagle's Wings with Evelyn Thompson as soloist, and Sonia Schmidt as organist. Congregation hymn was "Away In The Manger".

Pallbearers were Matt Caldwell, Chris Anderson, Troy Anderson, Jeremy Martin, Hank Oetjen, Andy Albrecht and Adam Sund. Honorary pallbearers were Dawn Caldwell, Gail Martin, Neile Anderson, Meghan Anderson, Kilee Oetjen, Abbie Albrecht, Jessie Portenier and Allie Portenier.

Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery north of Superior, Nebraska.
