Christian Biography of Georgia Hickman

Georgia Rae Hickman, the daughter of Clarence and Lorraine (Wall) Sykes, was born on November 11, 1949 in Superior, Nebraska. She passed away on May 18, 2014 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 64 years, 6 months, 7 days.

Georgia attended Ruskin Public Schools graduating from Ruskin High School. She continued her education at Fairbury Junior College and Kearney State College earning a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Hickman on December 22, 1972 at Nora, Nebraska and this union a daughter was born.

She enjoyed reading and working with the clients, her children, grandchildren and family. Georgia taught school in Cadams for 2 years. She was employed as the area director for Developmental Disabled for Mid-Nebraska for 17 years, and for Goodwill Industries for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Art on June 13, 2010; and a nephew Russell Prentiss.

She is survived by her daughter Abby Hickman of Superior, Nebraska and step-daughter Sammi Galvan and her husband Robert of Alamogordo, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Gracee Galvan, John O'Rourke of Hastings, Nebraska; James O'Rourke and wife Emily of Chesapeake, Virginia; Jeff Hickman of Denver, Colorado; Ben Bruning and wife Loretta of Springfield, Missouri; and Phillip Bruning of Milford, Nebraska; two great grandchildren, Draco Bruning and Logan O'Rourke; and one sister Judie Prentiss of Fairmont, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Tupper officiating.

Music was recording of "Go Rest High On that Mountain," and "In the Garden."

Visitation was held on May 21, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Pallbearers were John O'Rourke, James O'Rourke, Jeff Hickman, Phillip Bruning, Josh Jacobitz, and Shawn Jensen. Honorary Pallbearers were Ben Bruing, Gracee Galvan, Draco Bruning, Logan O'Rourke, Kinsley Stuart, Brandon Chance Swain, Annie Swain, Morgan Webber and Alyse Carlson.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska.
