Christian Biography of Gerald "Kubie" Kubicek
Gerald Gene Kubicek, the son of Frank and Opal (Fitzwater) Kubicek, was born on July 10, 1936 in Oak, Nebraska. He passed away on June 3, 2017 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 10 months, 24 days.
Gerald was a Nelson High School graduate and attended college at Fairbury. He enlisted into the United States Army on September 13, 1955 and was honorably discharged on September 12, 1957 serving during the Korean War. On March 29, 1959 Gerald was united in marriage to Judith Lee Shipley at the First Christian Church in Nelson. To this union a daughter and son were born. Gerald was baptized in the First Christian Church in Nelson in 1964. He owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Nelson and then Schuyler, Nebraska.
Gerald was a member of the Elks Club, Board of Directors of Nebraska and Iowa Dry Cleaners Association, Board of Directors of Nelson Golf Course, member of the Chamber of Commerce in Schuyler and Nelson, and both Schuyler and Superior Golf Courses.
He was an avid golfer, and his hobbies included wood working, gardening, and bird watching. He enjoyed boating, skiing, camping, traveling, and farming; he truly loved the outdoors and nature. He loved humor and he loved people. Kubie was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and the Nebraska Cornhusker football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Helen Schneider and grandson Ryan Michael Novak.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Superior, Nebraska; daughter Sheree Lee Novak of Bellevue, Nebraska and son Bryan Gene Kubicek of Davey, Nebraska and Diane Duba of Lincoln, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren Nathan Novak and wife Courtney and Aaron Novak and wife Kelli; and 2 great grandchildren Pippa and Julian Novak; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1:30 pm from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Stark officiating.
Music was "How Great Thou Art," "Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" with Joan Schiermeyer as the vocalist and Carlita Price as her accompanist and recording "I Can Only Imagine."
Book Signing visitation was held on June 9, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson, Nebraska.
Honorary Pallbearers were Nathan Novak, Aaron Novak, Greg Meyer, Mike Shipley, Mike Buresh, Frank Playter, Kenny Schiermeyer, Larry Thornberry, Larry Peters, Dan Wisnieski, Roy Vondracek, Dale Kaven and Charlie Heavican,
Inurnment with Military Honors was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
