Christian Biography of Gladys Marie (McCutcheon) Shroyer

Gladys Marie Shroyer, the daughter of John B. and Mae (Jensen) McCutcheon, was born on September 12, 1933 on a farm near Hardy, Nebraska. She passed away on April 22, 2013 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 7 months, 10 days.

Gladys was baptized on May 6, 1934 by R.V. Davis and confirmed on May 25, 1947 by Harry Glein both at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy. She attended school in the Hardy area.

On August 12, 1951 in Hardy, Nebraska, Gladys was united in marriage to Donald George Shroyer and to this union seven children were born.

Gladys was always cooking and baking for her family which she truly loved. She enjoyed card playing and most recently watching game shows, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Rural Social Circle and the Sunny Side Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald on March 13, 2008, brother Willard McCutcheon, sisters-in-law Glennis McCutcheon and Beulah Ray and brother-in-law Bryce Ray.

Survivors include her five daughters, Barbara Johansen and husband Leslie of Marquette, Nebraska, Phyllis Shroyer of Superior, Nebraska, Janet Cerny and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cheryl Rothchild and husband Marlin of Aurora, Nebraska and Diane Focken and husband Jim of Ansley, Nebraska and two sons, Steven and wife Jocelyn and Dennis and wife Stacey all of Superior, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren: Kayla Johansen, Lindsey Hinzmann and husband Chase, Todd Cerny and wife Christy, Jerome Cerny; Chad Rothchild, Sarah Rothchild, Blake Barry and wife Melissa, Phil Barry and wife Sara, Clint Shroyer; Ryan, Heath, Tanner and Brody Focken; Haley Bohlen and husband Cody and Jared Shroyer; and 7 great-grandchildren: Katie and Emma Cerny, Cailyn and Cayce Barry, Tarissa and Dean Barry and Bayleigh Bohlen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating.

Music was "When I Get Where I'm Going" and "Amazing Grace," with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Price as organist.

Visitation was held on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00.

Pallbearers were Todd Cerny, Jerome Cerny, Blake Barry, Phillip Barry, Clint Shroyer, Ryan Focken, Heath Focken, Tanner Focken, Brody Focken, Jared Shroyer, and Chad Rothchild. Honorary Pallbearers were Kayla Johansen, Lindsey Hinzmann, Sarah Rothchild, and Haley Bohlen.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
