Gladys M. Stinson, age 78, of Lincoln, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln. She was born July 11, 1934 at Elba, Nebraska to Andrew and Magdalena Jacobsen and graduated from Elba High School with honors and attended Lincoln School of Commerce. Gladys was employed as a secretary for Swanson Canning Co. in Omaha.
She was united in marriage to Jack Stinson of Atlanta, Ga. on June 10, 1964. They operated a hardware store in Miami, Okla. for several years prior to moving to Superior, Nebraska where they built and operated their hardware store. Lincoln was their residence after leaving Superior to successfully operate an Ace Hardware Store.
Gladys was known for her wit and humor and never met a person she didn't like. She made friends very easily. Gladys was a devout Christian, board member of Kiwanis, and appreciated a Christ centered life and education. She was also a foundation member for U.N.L. Athletics. Gladys' family would like to thank the staff at Tabitha for the care and support their mother received.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Lester Jacobsen.
She leaves to morn her death, her sons, Mark (Tracy) Stinson and their children, Brook and Abby; Kirk (Lori) Stinson, and their children, Elle and Eva. She also survived by two sisters, Harriett Nielsen of Dannebrog, Nebraska, and Alice Mayne, of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Allen Jacobsen of Miami, Okla; and a sister-in-law, Burdette Jacobsen of Elba, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 am at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln, with Rev. John G. Lacey officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until services on Monday at the church. Memorials may go in care of the Lincoln Lutheran High School and Middle School, or Faith Lutheran School.
