Christian Biography of Gordon Meyer

Gordon Leon Meyer, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Shaw) Meyer, was born on February 7, 1937 in Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away on June 28, 2018 at his residence in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 4 months, 21 days.

Gordon was one of 4 children. He attended school in Nelson graduating from Nelson High School. He was a lifelong member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.

He was inducted into the United States Navy in 1957 serving during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1962. While in the service, he was united in marriage to Sharon Bergman on May 31, 1958 in Nelson, Nebraska and to this union 3 children were born.

He owned and operated a Bakery in Nelson for a couple of years. He worked for the City of Nelson for 25 years, Deweese Sand and Gravel, Drudik Electric and Jay Lyons Diamond Lyme.

Gordon was a 25-year member of the Nelson Fire Department, and a member of the Nelson American Legion. He enjoyed camping and especially family vacations with many other Nelson families.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Elizabeth Meyer, brother Lendall, parents-in-law Fredd and Amber Bergman, brother-in-law Gary Baker, son-in-law Greg Choquette and sisters-in-law Evelyn Meyer and Emily Jo Meyer.

Survivors include his wife Sharon of Nelson; his 3 daughters Tammy Choquette of Franklin, Nebraska; Darcy Kathman and husband Dale of Lawrence, Nebraska and Chris Hansen and husband Hooter of Deweese, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren Joe Kathman, Jeff Kathman and wife Amy, Samantha Spirk and husband Peter, Mitchell Choquette, Corbin Hansen and Justin Hansen; 4 great grandchildren; and his siblings Lindley Meyer of Arizona and Nancy Baker of Blue Springs, Missouri and brother-in-law Bob Bergman and his wife Vickie of Newton, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
