Christian Biography of Gwen Whiteley

Gwendolyn Leone Whiteley, the daughter of Cecil and Margaret "Maggie" (Moorhead) Sheets, was born on September 16, 1914 on a farm near Deweese, Nebraska. She passed away on September 4, 2012 at Heritage Crossings, Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 11 months, 19 days.

Gwen was one of five children, attended country school and graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1932. She was a member of the Nelson Community Church of Christ. On March 31, 1934 she was united in marriage to Gerald Whiteley in Nelson, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children. Together they farmed and raised their family until moving into Nelson in 1978.

Gwen and Reba Harrington together started Nelson's schools hot lunch program over 50 years ago. She enjoyed quilting and cooking in her spare time and was a member of the Rebecca's and the extension club. Gwen loved to spend time with her family, and especially enjoyed the family gatherings.

In January of 2009, Gwen moved to the Heritage Crossings in Geneva, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald on February 23, 1998; one brother William Gordon Sheets and three sisters Alice Fae Meyer, Mildred Bishop and Evelyn Collins.

She is survived by her children Gary Whiteley and wife Kay of Geneva, Nebraska, Betty Rainforth and husband Jerry of North Loup, Nebraska and Bruce Whiteley of Kansas City; eight grandchildren Doug Whiteley, Mitch Whiteley, Phil Rainforth, Lori Rainforth, Ben Murphy, Bart Murphy, Brad Murphy and Maggie Whiteley; and twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
