Christian Biography of Harry McNeil Robinson
Harry McNeil Robinson, the son of Alfonso and Clara (Hudson) Robinson, was born on February 23, 1926 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on August 20, 2013 at Superior Good Samaritan Society at the age of 87 years, 5 months, 28 days.
He grew up on the family farm south of Webber, Kansas near where the Lovewell Lake Marina stands today. He attended the Rose Hill School just up the road from the farm and Webber and Mankato schools. He was inducted into the US Army in July 1944 and was discharged in July 1946 as a Staff Sergeant. His service was at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland and at Oaku, Hawaii. On his 19th birthday, February 1945, he wed Mary Ann Hudson of Superior at Mankato, Kansas.
After the war, Harry and Mary Ann worked and raised a family in Superior. They were committed parents of three children: Robb, Tom and Teresa. Harry owned and operated Harry Robinson's Conoco Service at 3rd & Central from the late 1940s to mid-1980s. He also sold bulk products as a Continental Oil Company agent from the late 1950s until his retirement. In the 1970s he served as a city councilman and mayor. Over the years he was a member of many of the local organizations such as the American Legion, the VFW, and Elks. He was a member of the United Methodist Church from 1948. Mary Ann and Harry enjoyed retirement together until she passed away in June 2006 after 61 years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Ann, brother, Robert Robinson and wife Ruth, brother, Kenneth Robinson and recently Harry's nephew Richard Robinson.
His surviving children and grandchildren are: Robb (Robert Harry) Robinson, Syracuse, Nebraska, Tom and Ann Robinson, Neil and Laura of Katy, Texas, Teresa and Bill Moody, Steven and Thomas of Lincoln. Harry is also survived by brother Kenneth's wife, LaWana Robinson of Menifee, California, and Mary Ann's sisters Mille Houtz of Wray, Colorado and Honey Schaaf of Superior as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Roger Walls officiating.
Music was congregational hymn "Nearer My God to Thee," and recording "Welcome to My World."
Visitation was held on Friday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Pallbearers were Robb Robinson, Bill Moody, Tom Robinson, Thomas Moody, Steven Moody and Neil Robinson. Honorary Pallbearers were Laura Robinson, Teresa Moody and Ann Robinson.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to go to the Simic Skating Rink.
